Sadly the once great Cambridge Independent is now locked behind a paywall. It isn't enough of a read to be worth a subscription sadly as apart from the weekly CUFC update a lot of the content is very sparse. . Try clicking the “Already registered” bit when it asks for your email. It made the wall disappear for me. Or turn on your browser's reader mode.

I'm not sure whether it's just my perception, but it feels like we had a tough year last year with injuries, but this year seems even worse, considering the long spells out for Gassan, Fej, Dunk, Rossi, Janneh, Thomas, Haunstrup, and McConnell and the intermittent spells out for Cousins, Okedina, Stevens (now his second spell out), KaiKai, and Kachunga. Of our regular first teamers, only really Lennett, Rennett, Morrison, Digby and Brophy don't seemed to have missed much of the season. Say what you like about how they're being coached, but that lack of regular availability can't be helping. Is that a problem with the players, or the physio department (or both)? Potentially both. When we sign players with previous injury records like Haunstraup, Cousins, & Fejiri for example then we are always taking a risk. The sports science/fitness seems to have gone down since Matt Walker left and that may be coincidental as well. We also seem to suffer a lot of training injuries rather than in game. Again is this bad luck or are they preparing properly for training?

Again is this bad luck or are they preparing properly for training? Much of this is the legacy from Bonner and Strang. I remember MB saying he always favoured a small closely knit squad rather than a larger squad with lots of loan players. The problem with that, as we have found out, is that if you have a lengthy injury list you are crippled and Sod’s Law says you will invariably lose players in critical positions. Again we can’t compete with the bigger clubs. Bolton had six or seven key players missing when they played us, but still put out a strong team with options from the bench.

Okedina "fit & ready" according to that interview, so nothing serious from coming off earlier in the week.

Crucified at Oakwell, resurrected at the Abbey on Monday This gives me the thought of an in-thread film thread! The Easter Story starring Cambridge United. Gary Monk plays Jesus. With any luck he'll be walking across Grafham Water (doubling for the Sea of Galilee) on the way home tomorrow evening. Lyle Taylor as The Easter Bunny (dramatic licence etc) Ben Strang as Pontius Pilot Barnsley FC as the Roman Legion... All we need now is a passable impression of The Last Supper and a candidate for the role of Judas Iscariot...

Diggers hitting a new world record for saying “I know” 93 times in an interview of 6 mins. I wish they’d put someone else in media duties! Much as I love diggers, the constant repetition and I knows is grating!
