Lindsay Smith lived across the road from my childhood home in Cherry Hinton. I believe he still lives there. Don’t know about now but he could be regularly seen on Cherry Hinton rec watching the football in his playing days if I remember correctly, possibly with one or two other players, but my memory is a bit fuzzy these days

Back in the early 80s when our family were fairly regular church goers there was an older man in the congregation whose son-in-law was a goalkeeper for QPR. Not knowing much about QPR at the time myself and brothers showed little interest in finding out more. Then came the 1982 FA Cup Final between Spurs and QPR and Peter Hucker stole the show, winning man of the match in the 1-1 draw. At the final whistle myself, brothers and mates ran over to the park with us all attempting to recreate Huckeresque saves. Admittedly hardly any of us actually saved any goals but we did do the finest impersonations of leaping salmon.
Said man in the congregation was soon being badgered with numerous requests for signed shirts.

Kevin Tully lodged 3 doors down from me in 1974 and my ex wife's uncle moved next door to Ron Atkinson in Sutton Coldfield.

Having lived in of the nicest bits of Stoke for over 20 years, there’s been quite a few Vale and Stoke players living nearby. Lou Macari and John Rudge both live a couple of minutes away, both very nice blokes. There’s a footballer called James Gibbons whose parents live across the road too. Lovely family.

I presume it's at a tree-bedroomed gaff?

I dread to think of the unpublished diaries of famous players and managers that never published, that stay in a family until lost or cleared out. Quite the dilemma between respecting their modest wishes and the clambering public interest in their view of matches, seasons and competitions.

Lindsay Smith lived across the road from my childhood home in Cherry Hinton. I believe he still lives there. I can remember playing football on the Rec in Cherry Hinton (late 70s) and on occasion Wolfie would come along and join us for a kick around. That was cool.

In my teens, and while he was manager Roy McFarland genuinely lived in my mate's summer house in Elsworth, presumably renting it during the week rather than moving the family down here. The only time I actually saw him I was dicking about with my mate jumping on his trampoline, when we were both far too old to be doing so really, and Roy comes out of the summer house carrying his briefcase, and gives us a cheery "alright boys?". My friend's parents broke up soon after, so the joke for the last twenty five years has been that Roy and his mum were having an affair. I mean they weren't... but were they?!

Used to bump into Lindsay Smith in the Unicorn in Cherry Hinton every now and again.
Graham Scarf came to my school and coached us a couple of times.
My sister married a former United player, so Keith Branagan and Mark Cooper used to come round to our house occasionally.

Did you ever kick him in the knee? It was all those floor level post boxes that did him over. In all seriousness, if anyone has one of those installed, have a word with yourselves. Pathetic.

Not sure it counts as it’s “before they were famous” but Liam Kelly (Coventry City) used to join in kickabouts with us at the local park - he was a lot younger than us though. Richard Lee was in my year at school (Watford & Brentford keeper).
My younger brother can do a lot better - he was friends with Leah Williamson as she was in his class at primary & secondary school and with David Oldfield’s (journeyman, Luton, Man City, Leicester, Stoke, Boro etc etc) son.
No footballing neighbours though
