I hope the EFL are looking closely at this and sending a warning to Posh about the implications of their team selection. That could affect the whole 'fair play' aspect and integrity of the League. Sadly, I don't think a fine would bother them, and points deduction would have no impact either as they are established in the play offs. Do I expect a warning to be given? Probably not, as already seen in recent days, the EFL are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Behave. It's their squad and they can do whatever they think is right for their season. It's annoying for us given the way the fixture has fallen but we're the ones that have gotten ourselves into this mess & it's on us if we don't keep ourselves out of it. If we were in their position we'd be doing exactly the same. I'd also suggest that Peterborough's second string is still more than good enough to beat Cheltenham's first. You know full well if we were safe by now there'd have been plenty of calls to start/play the likes of McConnell, Simper, Njoku etc, or to give fringe players who haven't started many games a run-out.

Any team will be keen to win their final home game of the season, Stevenage will be no different, Fleetwood also. Port Vale will also give it a go but if we go in to it needing something I’d like to think we’d get it.
As much as I hate saying it, Pish have a very strong squad, they made changes Saturday and by all accounts won very comfortably. They won’t just roll over against a Cheltenham team that have lost 5 on the bounce at home and have to win 2 on the trot to stand any hope of staying up.
Nothing is a given in Football, anything can happen, but the chances of us being the team going down is very slim. I hope our players and coaching staff are approaching this week in a more positive frame of mind than some on here.

I've just noticed that we're Wycombe's 4th away game in 10 days, after long trips to Shrewsbury, Port Vale and Carlisle. That means exactly 1,200 miles clocked on the team coach when they arrive at the Abbey tomorrow.
They've also won all three of those games, so they've been working hard.
We really have no excuses.

Think how Cheltenham must have felt when we went to Harrogate and they played their reserves....
Besides, you can cut it whichever way you want, squad players will be fresher and have the carrot of winning a place for the play offs.

The EFL has rules about playing as strong a team as possible to preserve the integrity of the competition, which given the impact on the relegation battle, Posh playing a weakened team are contravening. Of course, we are involved in that battle and have a vested interest, but it is relevant. If they were playing a team who had nothing to play for, then there wouldn't be an issue; remember how we all felt when Weymouth played the kids years ago (out of necessity granted) and how that result impacted the promotion picture because of goal difference swing. It also borders on affecting betting markets, but I wouldn't want to open that can of worms

Would you be so bothered if we were playing boro (putting aside the rivalry) and Wycombe were playing Cheltenham? Would it bother you if boro put a weaker side out against us?

They do but it's very wishy-washy. They were considering introducing a stronger one 5 or so years ago but I don't think it ever happened. The properly defined "strongest possible" rules only apply to the cup competitions & include specific regs around number of players from previous & next matchday squads. Ultimately, unless Peterborough fielded a side largely composed of academy graduates with a handful of appearances between them, the likelihood of them being found in breach of that rule is nil.

The fact they’re also resting loads ramps the pressure up on Cheltenham. (As if that wasn’t high enough already) All of a sudden it becomes a much more equal game and the expectation of them winning it grows. We’ve had 2 chances to make tomorrow irrelevant, failed to do that. If we fail to get the point(s) needed over the next few days and go down it’s completely on us. Let’s not go down the Nottingham Forest route and “consider our options”

Believe it or not, I'm not fussed who is playing Cheltenham, it's the principle behind resting players to give an advantage to the opposition, especially in a match that has potential implications in the relegation battle. Of course, I wouldn't care so much if it was us they were playing, I'd take every advantage I could get to stay up, which I know sounds contra to my argument, but that's me bringing my team's interests into it. Will they be doing it against Bolton on Saturday though, despite being safe in 3rd place in the league? I doubt it. Final thought, it's all well and good saying we just need to do our bit by getting our points on the board (which is true and I think we will, but it may go down to Saturday), but how many on here won't be furious if we go down because Cheltenham got an easy 3 points against Posh?

Still furious at Shrewsbury 25 years later so yeah, but mostly angry at us if we somehow manage to cock things up.

I've never forgiven Shrewsbury for playing the stiffs back in 1995.
If we go down it won't be because of that one match but don't tell me not to be annoyed either.
*Edit* Andrew beat me to it

I remember a similar thing a couple of seasons ago when Bristol Rovers pumped someone on the last day to get promoted on goal difference. I'm sure it was Northampton who missed out as a result and they may have complained to the FA about Rovers opposition fielding kids.

I think I’d be more furious over the Chris Martin incident, that really does leave a sour taste, I get what you’re saying though. This time of the season always does bring up all sorts of problems and permeations though. Think everyone just has to concentrate on controlling what they can control. That applies to us and Peterborough in this case. Just hope this time on Wednesday that this conversation is irrelevant, one way or another.
