Since we're forensically picking apart the squad, the tactics, our transfer policies etc. I thought it might be a good time to reflect on the atmosphere (or sometimes lack thereof) at games.
I think I'd maybe give us a 5 or a 6 out of 10 this season. I'm not sure there are many results we can say we influenced the way the game played, potentially the 'You'll never beat Bennett' guy was the most influential at making someone lose their head. Obvious Bellend Award goes to the Flair Thrower vs Stevenage away.
Attendances have been impressive but often times stood in the NRE it has felt a bit flat. Given it sells out every week it does feel like there's more to be gained from behind the goal. Although I'd be interested to hear if other parts of the ground agree with that assessment.
Like many aspects of this season, I think there's areas of improvement that if we can build on our strengths - we've got all the ingredients to turn the Abbey into a really really tough place to come for opposition teams. I've a feeling we'll need every advantage we can get with the league being so strong.
What can we do differently next season?

Play exciting football, with the occasional shot on target, and longer periods of controlled possession, that’s all it will take.

Hate to say it but having sat in the South Stand a few times this season it's really hard to hear the NRE.

Hate to say it but having sat in the South Stand a few times this season it's really hard to hear the NRE. To be fair it’s hard to hear anything from the NRE when standing in the NRE. Some really cringe chants have appeared the last few seasons. And if anyone else tries to start one the spotty kids (who are all married and making their wife available to Lyle Taylor apparently) never join in.

Lower capacity in the NRE hasn’t helped on bigger game days, poor acoustics, some crap chants, but it does feel loud ish when in the NRE . Doesn’t travel well.

Think the point about acoustics is spot on. The NRE can sound loud when you're in it, but I imagine the away end does too and that can't be heard from the NRE usually. Chants don't travel particularly well round the ground (fair enough if people don't want to join in with some of the weirder/coarser ones) and so the noise gets lost. If we're going to develop the NRE, it'd be good if we can do that with some attention to how it could carry sound better. Maybe if the South Habbin becomes designated for the away end, some of the wannabe 'hard' fans will migrate to the North Habbin, potentially giving an option to spread the sound round there too?

Exciting football and shots on goal help definitely. Could do with some leaders in the North Habbin that can keep time. Maybe some sort of campaign message to all supporters encouraging some sort of chant cohesion? Who knows really, it's sort of difficult to get everyone on the same song sheet (pun intended) when everyone is on different social media platforms or not at all on any social media. You could use the match day program but then not everyone buys one either. It certainly strikes me that it could benefit from being a bit more organised but then again football chants and singing are often spontaneous.
Anyway, yours sincerely from the 'you can't beat Bennet' guy.

I’ve always thought if our more vocal element were in the south Habbin next to the away fans the atmosphere would be a lot louder as both sets of fans could be able to hear each other and react from each other.

Whilst we're on the topic of NRE / Habbin, I turn 40 next week. Does that mean I'm obliged to transfer to the Habbin, never to return to the NRE? I wasn't sure if the cut-off was 40, 50, or just whatever age incontinence hits.

I think it was my grey hair count in my beard that made the choice for me.

You can’t hear anything from the NRE if you stand in the South Habbin.I think it’s capacity is only 1400ish,back in the day it was about 1900 and it was rammed.Pretty tinpot nowadays!
