I know international football stuff usually ends up in the Random Thoughts thread so I thought I'd go all particular and start a separate one for this year's competition. Some 'off-the-top-of-my head' thoughts in no particular order: -Who will be the finalists and eventual winner? -Which team(s) will be the surprise package(s)? -And which team(s) will underwhelm and disappoint? -How will current holders Italy fare? -How will England and Scotland fare? -There will be a number of players present who currently ply their trade/sell their soul in the Saudi Pro League; will that league's lack of quality/competitiveness show in their performances? -How many times will the phrase 'Football's coming home' be used in post match interviews. I must confess I've paid very little attention to the build up and really don't know my current Slovenias from my Serbias. So, if you've got the time and inclination I'd thoroughly recommend The Guardian's Expert Guide to all the teams. They're currently up to Number 14, France. www.theguardian.com/football/series/euro-2024--guardian-experts--network

If this counts as a match thread, I'd rather someone else had started it...

Lost interest the moment the squad was announced and Harrison Dunk wasn't it in.
Southgate out.

If it all pans out as you'd expect with teams winning the group you'd expect to win the group and teams finishing 3rd that you'd expect then I think we should be fine to reach the quarter finals at least.
...but I think however it pans out I'd consider anything less than semi finals a missed opportunity.
France v Germany in the final for me (can that happen?).
Scotland will do well to get a point. Germany in Germany will be tough, Switzerland are always decent, and Hungary are pretty good as we saw in the nations league.

I've cared about the top flight and England even less this year than usual, but I'm sure I'll follow along as the tournament kicks off.
But, uh, what's a Branthwaite and why should I care?

Personally, I think we are going to win it. Good mix and with some top players. The palace lads bring a refreshing enthusiasm to it.
If you take the emotion out; a team which includes Kyle Walker, John Stones, Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane is going to compete.
And it doesn't matter if the first few games are boring and we grind out 1-0 wins etc... It's a long tournament and plenty of oppurtunity to show your form.
Wharton is a potential star and has really benefitted from his loan spell with us!

Foden does well for citeh but has not really shown much for England. Bellingham was on fire earlier in the season but less so now. Also the squad seems a bit fragile with many already carrying knocks

It's one thing thinking we overhype our own players, but Bellingham won La Liga player of the season and Kane was top scorer in the Bundasliga. Stones would walk into any defence in the world.
But it's all jolly good that being case when we barely have a left back, Pickford is our keeper, we're rueing the absence of Maguire and our midfield working seems predicated on a lad who barely has more top flight appearances than appearances in the Amber and Black (who is just what we need, but still!).
We are second favourites, we won't win it, but I'm not sure anyone isn't rated how they should be.

Finalists : France and Germany, winners France Surprise: Georgia who will get to the knockout stage Underwhelm and Disappoint: Poland, Croatia and Switzerland Underwhelm and Delight: Scotland England: lose to France in semifinal Scotland: 2 Draws and 1 Defeat is not enough to get to the knockout stage, and will continue their fine tradition. Only 14 players in the Euros play is Saudi, so will anyone notice, except for Ronaldo who will, unfortunately, be as good as normal. Footballs coming home: Too many.

Not to worried how England do as long as we beat Denmark. Going to be an unbearable couple of years here if we lose that one.

We should win this - Kane, Rice & Bellingham would be in ANY international side, with Saka & Stones not far behind. Yes, defence is a bit flaky but the attacking 6 should scare the pants off anyone

Argentina won the world cup with Otamendi at centre back. Our current back 4 is more than good enough if we are coached correctly and set up to play to our strengths
