In my search for the original redevelopment plans I come accross these drawings, presumably on the old U's Net: www.cambridgeunited.com/club/abbeyplans.htmlThere were the 1st plans before being scaled back. Can't find the updated ones, but from memory the NRE was going to match the south stand.

The guy painting the lines is Trevor Ball??? Well I never.
Our sons have played together and against each other throughout colts/reps football and I never knew it was him in the picture!
The wonders of the internet, cheers Colin for the info.
Some good stuff on here. Great post Stocky, those drawings make your eyes pop.

Those wellies must give him an extra couple of inches.

Managed to dig this photo out over Christmas. It was taken on 24th April 1982 on the occasion of my first visit to The Abbey to watch us play Leicester City (my Dad's team). We lost 2-1 but the memory, and this unremarkable photo, are very special to me. Walking up to the ground on Boxing Day, knowing that soon(ish) we'd be leaving it and there would be just another load of houses in its place...well it made me quite sad.

How is it possible that the SC looks more modern 28 1/2 years ago than it does now?
Great photo too - wish I had an Abbey photo to contribute, but I don't.

How is it possible that the SC looks more modern 28 1/2 years ago than it does now? Because 28 1/2 years ago it was more modern than it is now?!
