One from the distant past, I see Robbie Cooke has joined David Moyes' backroom staff at Old Trafford. He was previously in charge of scouting at Everton, and has moved with the rest of Moyes' staff.

Luke Guttridge signed for Luton today after his release from Northampton. Good signing for them. Only 31, can still do a job

That's one I would have happily seen in our midfield...lil Luke is/was class That he was but his attitude/ mystery illness stunk when we needed him most. The fact he has grafted a good career from the game suggests it wasnt a chronic issue with him.

The deal to take Ruddy from Norwich to Chelsea is almost done ... Didn't Herve Renard give Ruddy his debut?

Surely it was Claude LeRoy who gave Ruddy his debut while Herve was Assistant/Coach?! Herve took over the season after didn't he?

Surely it was Claude LeRoy who gave Ruddy his debut while Herve was Assistant/Coach?! Herve took over the season after didn't he? Claude was 'officially' the gaffer, but in fact spent a grand total of about 20 minutes attending to club matters.

World Cup boss Le Roy, 56, the replacement for John Taylor, axed a week ago, had this morning appeared to have distanced himself from a permanent job at the Abbey.
He said: "I've signed nothing with Cambridge. One of my former assistants, Herve Renard, is there to assess the situation and I said I would pay a visit next week.
"I am engaged with Canal Plus (French TV station, where he is a pundit) and I have to be loyal to them. I said when I was free from Canal Plus, I was ready to help a little bit at Cambridge.
"That was the deal. I never spoke concerning £1 (about money) or anything like that. It was just to do an audit."
But speaking at lunchtime, Renard, 35, who spent two years with Le Roy coaching in Shanghai, said:
"Claude is the chief. He will make the final decisions on the team selection after he comes on Monday. "I spoke to Claude yesterday evening. It is difficult to make comments after one training session but the players were really up for it.
"My aim is to save the club from being relegated from Division Three. Whether I will be here if they get relegated? Maybe.
"I do not have a contract at Cambridge but I hope to get one. I don't know how often Claude will be here because he has television commitments."
Renard, who played alongside Zinedine Zidane and Patrick Vieira at Cannes, arrived yesterday to assist caretaker boss Dale Brooks amidst great confusion. After United had announced Le Roy's appointment, the new manager promptly claimed it had all been a misunderstanding.
Then U's chairman Gary Harwood insisted the former Cameroon and Senegal boss had agreed to take charge on a part-time, noncontract basis, due to his media work, until the end of the season.
He said Le Roy will meet the players tomorrow before returning to take the helm on Monday morning. Harwood said: "Claude has to say that because he works for someone else.
"All he's doing, I suspect, is to make sure that his current employer doesn't sue him for breach of contract."
Later, United vice-chairman Roger Hunt said he believed that he would be at United each day from next week.
Hunt said: "He wouldn't have taken the job with United if he didn't think he could do it.
From next Monday he will be on board full time."
But Harwood confirmed: "He has agreed to stay with us until the end of the season and has put in his well-respected coach to do the day-to-day job."
He added Le Roy may stay with the club even if they should be relegated to the Nationwide Conference.
"He has said once his TV deal ends he would enter into a contract with us, which could be for a minimum of two years," said Harwood.
"What division we are in next season is important to both the football club and to Claude, as well.
"He has said that he may be happy to continue if we aren't in the League next season but that's something we aren't even trying to consider."
The waters were muddied further when director John Howard announced on TV that Le Roy would be signing a two-year contract.
Le Roy said he had initially been approached by a friend, believed to be United's prospective new director, about the post at Christmas.
He said: "I've had a lot of propositions but there are some people in Cambridge, who are my friends, and they asked me to help.
"I also love the town of Cambridge. It will be an interesting adventure.
"Cambridge United's rank in the third division is bad and we want to see what it's possible to do about that in the future. I'm very concerned about the club and interested in saving their place in the division."
Harwood felt Le Roy was the man to keep United clear of the trap door and believed success could be around the corner once he can concentrate all his time on the club.
He also believed that Le Roy's lack of experience in English football would not be a problem. "He will still be around a lot of the time and his preferred coach is full time, so we thought it was better than appointing a second or third choice and missing out on a tremendous chance," he said.
"Some might think Claude is the wrong choice because he hasn't managed a Division Three club in a relegation fight but you only have to look at what he has achieved with countries and teams in a worse position relatively than United.
"If you couple Cambridge with ambition, Claude is really looking forward to the challenge."
Superb.
Andrew
