Went to Midsumner House on Saturday. Food was ridiculously good, great place to go once in a while if you can remortgage your house to pay for it.
Restaurant 22 is my favourite still though. The food is top class, Michelin standard if you ask me at half the price. Lovely service as well from friendly staff.

Have you tried Hotel Felix Belly?

What are the portions like at these two gaffs? I have this image of having to get a kebab on the way home from either as I'm still Hank. Or is that misplaced?

Have you tried Hotel Felix Belly? Hotel Felix / Graffiti (I think that's the name of the restaurant in there?) is top choice in Cambridge for me if you want to spend a bit more. Haven't done Midsummer House or Alimentum (only heard bad things), so can't compare. Price wise it's probably half way between a Chop House and Midsummer House, but worth every penny!

Yeah it's called Graffiti The only downside for a Towny like me is the distance from home. Means you have to add the cost of a taxi.

Neither Midsummer or Allimentum are the sort of place where you can just have a main. Size of each course is based on the fact you are having at least 3. Push the boat out & have the tasting menu..... Believe me you'll be stuffed

Love Restaurant 22 and recently got to know the owners, great people and glad they are doing so well. Don't worry, I'm sure they're not after Michelin status so prices will stay as they are!
I make my first visit to Midsummer on Thursday for my dad's 65th birthday treat.
Love Hole in the Wall
I went for a "preview" meal at The Anchor by the river on Silver Street last night, and the food was amazing. Under new ownership. Quite pricey but really good. Peanut butter ice-cream pie for desert! They officially open tonight so make a visit ASAP folks

I've got another night out coming up. Any recommedations for a pre corn exchange meal?
Rather not end up in Jamies. I see cau is close and was mentioned earlier in the thread. Any other recommendations for a decent bite that doesn't cost the earth in that part of town.

Pint Shop almost next door to Corn Exchange opened yesterday. Maybe you could be first to review it for us? Food cooked over coals. Follow @pintshop and check their photos etc

I'm not going to be going to a restaurant in Cambridge anytime soon but I like reading this thread for the same reasons I like watching Masterchef.

I went to the Pint Shop last night. stayed in the bar but had a nose in the (fully booked) dining area. Looked rather good & the staff where superb, happy to talk food & drink with me. In the bar you can eat some fine snack. Rabbit & leek pasties & Salt-cod Scotch Egg, were two of the items on the ever changing board. &......... about 18 beers on keg or cask plus at least the same again in bottles. Looks like Cambridge may have another Disco-juice drinker free zone

Went for a bite to eat yesterday evening which was all a bit last minute.
Was heading for The Pint Shop, but a quick google of the menu showed that it was a bit too 'meaty' for my taste, similar to The Chop House I think - Pork/Lamb/Beef etc.
Given the short notice, we detoured into Jamie's for our first visit there. Sure it's fashionable to slate it, but to be honest, the food was pretty enjoyable, reasonably priced and it pretty much does what it says on the tin. That said, I think I'm out of sync with most - these bright, high ceiling, wooden floored, crammed in places really turn me off (Jamie's/Browns). They have the acoustics of a swimming pool and no intimacy at all. Maybe fun for a group of 6 or more that want to shout at each other but for 2, no chance.
The Pint Shop website is crap, but a few images I saw looked like it was the same formula. Crammed in, wooden floors, echoey with a relatively limited menu and fairly expensive. That'd be a shame as I want to like that place, especially with its real ales, but I don't fancy being 18 inches from some loudmouth next to me with the racket of everyone bouncing off the walls and the lighting of an operating theatre.
So, any reviews of The Pint Shop? Can still be persuaded on this one, but a return to The Galleria is looking favourite at the moment.
Edit:
Oh and while having a bit of a moan, why oh why oh why don't they put the bloody heating on. Tight fisted bastards. I HATE being cold in pubs or restaurants. Some of these places are probably difficult to heat, and with the smokers up and down like yo-yo's the doors are open as often as they are shut and the icy air blasts in. With the staff running around like blue arsed flies they probably don't feel it, but it comes to something when you walk in a pub and straight back out again because it's too bloody cold. Devonshire Arms take note!
Maybe I'm getting old, or miserable, or both. Rant over.

I've not been in The Pint Shop socially, only via my job. It certainly doesn't appear to have the noisy high ceiling thing going on. I thought the interior decor looked very nice and the bar snacks that were freshly prepared looked very tasty.
It looks like a decent venue for a pint and a bite to eat.
