He triggered it but doesn't mean he will be in the managers plans. I can see him going out on loan towards the end of the window if we get our targets in. Aye. We don't know for sure of course, but I don't think it's a particularly harsh reading of the situation to suggest that us announcing that we were in negotiations with him over the extension when the retained list was released & then announcing the extension with very little fanfare the day before pre-season training started doesn't exactly scream "key player in the manager's plans". Might not have been the case (we didn't make anything of Morrison's & Andrew's either, for instance), and things can change of course even if it was, but it wouldn't be much of a shock to see him out of the XI, out of the matchday squad and possibly out of the club before the transfer window shuts depending on interest and how successful we are in making signings.

Am I the only one who'd prefer to keep Cousins over Digby, if we brought in another defensive midfielder?

Their stats for the season are pretty similar from what I can see and I think they had pretty similarly ok-ish but not great seasons so it's much of a muchness in that regard I guess. Digbys fitness is much more reliable though so I'd go with him on that basis if we had to go all Thunderdome on them.
My ideal, I think, is that Cousins moves out on loan and we sign the the type of DM who makes Digby largely a squad player.

Cousins is the far better footballer but didn't look like they gave a rubbish for the second half of the season. Huge shame he'll be taking up a disproportionately large amount of our wage budget, Monk clearly doesn't rate him

Digby hands down due to his indestructability and versatility (Wycombe at home) and being a leader. And I’m not his biggest fan in terms of his footballing ability.

I think we are going to have a bigger squad and rotate a bit ,I also can see Hoddle going out on loan to Conference/league 2 side to gain some more playing time.

I’ll be surprised if Digby is here beyond this season but I’d take him all day long over Cousins. Is no doubt both improved once Monk took over, but I feel Digby could be more use to us in certain games than Cousins.
There was a few games where Digby showed he’s a bit more than the plodder some have him down as, but I don’t think he will be a regular this season.

Remember those few games towards the end of Bonner's reign where Digby was deployed as an attacking midfielder?!

Well...yeah, he was in that area of the pitch you'd call attacking midfield typically but I don't think he was playing as an attacking midfielder in the way La keater would be. More of a number 8 used high up the pitch to press the opposition back line with a more creative player alongside him as the number 10.
Ultimately it didn't work so I suppose defining the role as anything other than a failed experiment is pointless.

Heard a few champs sides are looking to sign Liam Bennett I've heard we're actively looking to sell as he won't sign a new deal.
