On our doorstep at Newmarket one of their promising players Ryan Cole has gone on trial to Wycombe. One we could miss out on or is he not good enough for L1. One for Mr Squeeze.

A name like Mike Huras needs no nickname. I feel there is a joke there somewhere, but I haven't managed to squeeze one out yet. Apologies. Spitan Polish. Obtuse I know but it popped into my (tiny) mind.

Hope it works out for him, lovely player. No guarantees but he’s got enough about him.
Add to an ever increasing list of non-league players from within an hour or so of our club that may pass us by.

Genuine question but what is our relationship like with the local non league sides? Do we have better links with some than others? Will some not ‘engage’ with us due to past issues? As you say above these players always seem to be picked up by other teams.

We clearly shouldn't have spunked our scouting budget on Scandinavia.

To be honest I can’t speak with that much knowledge but there’s no real issues, we use Newmarket & Ives facilities for a lot of our youth stuff, have a relationship with Neots & our players have gone to several other sides. Believe Bonns was quite engaged & would often be seen at games with our Academy staff but in terms of scouting I know several players have been recommended & it’s never been met with too much interest. Just seems like we have a different kind of recruitment strategy going on currently. Frustrates me seeing some of these guys playing against us or even bypassing us completely to go higher up but in the scheme of things it’s a could & perhaps should be better rather than something that will make or break us.

From what I know of it, we're more interested in signing them younger than when they've already broken through into a first team at 17/18/19. Think we like to have them in our own system for at least a couple of years. We pick up a lot more local players at scholar age or earlier.
Obviously a few exceptions to that in Jobe & Bennett, but generally that's the approach.

Rodri, Salah, Haaland.
This is the quality of player I expect to see in this thread now that we have a spiffing new badge to go with our new training facilities.

From what a random Newmarket fan seemed to indicate on my Twitter page, we had him on trial and deemed him not good enough. I guess Wycombe may still say he's not good enough for them, but we've played this game too many times for it to be a coincidence
