Just making sure the new forum's the spiritual successor to the old one...

A worthy first post - it's like nothing has changed.

I notice threads that have the most recent replies don't move to the top of the page. Is that deliberate? Not sure if I prefer that format or not.
Obviously not an issue now we only have 3 threads but could become one later.

There's only one thread, isn't there? The two at the top are 'sticky'.

I wonder whether Ling will walk if he's not given the budget he was promised when he was appointed? It may be the only way he can 'save face', at least in his own mind. Personally, I've seen nothing to persuade me that he could get us promoted, though perhaps his '3 year plan' has made both the squad and Ling himself complacent this season. No need to put so much effort in if the big push is next year.

I doubt it. Saw an interview with him on the CEN site today and he seems quite up beat.
I think this situation has removed a lot of the pressure from him and he's now got a ready made excuse should he fail.

Slightly cynical but you're probably right. If he truly hasn't been a "penny over budget" in the whole time he's been here as claimed today then it's understandable that he feels resolved of responsibility. He doesn't set the budget after all.
That said, I wonder how much the fitness deal/training ground has bitten into the director's pockets.

Ling has the perfect opportunity to ease the pressure on himself and in turn, improve our league position tomorrow. He proved he could get a win out of his team at Eastbourne and if he can get them to return another win tomorrow and go on to realise a double-figure points return from January, then he'll have made some progress in answering my doubts, at least.
Football is a simple game - and if he picks his strongest available side and gets them to play to their strengths, ie, passing it on the deck, stretching the oppo defence from the flanks and getting decent quality service into the strikers in the box - we'll do pretty much alright, I reckon.

Good afternoon all.
I don't think getting rid of Ling would do us any favours. I dont always agree with him or his tatics but who else would take the job now? No disrespect meant.
Once I have won the Euro tonight all problems will be solved ;-)

Were Ling to leave we would have no shortage of applicants for the job. Finding a manager isn't the problem, finding the right manager is.

Finding a manager able to work on a small budget is also an issue.
