Three really lovely goals tonight. The three Gs, Guehi, Gomes and Grealish were all an improvement. Foden rightly benched, but Palmer had his first ordinary game for club and country seemingly for months. The only negatives: a bad goal to wreck the clean sheet, and Sam bloody Matterface’s commentary. Why he has resurrected the ghastly phrase “at this moment in time” is just beyond reason. It was supposed to have been buried with Murray Walker. I don’t think Matterface should be shot, but perhaps the producers could arrange for a non-lethal electric shock whenever he says it? I know you've mentioned Foden a couple of times in your posts about England-Greece but if you could explain what role he was being asked to play and how he was meant to execute it then you're a better man than I. He was one of the many victims of Carsley's bizarre selection and shape that night. Foden is a an absolute genius of a player and doesn't have Bellingham's baggage of ego and Billy Bollocks. He's an absolute team player. Hopefully we'll find an England manager who can see that too, Oh and btw put Bellingham back into his box.

I just don’t think that Foden’s contributed anything at all special, in line with his talent, when playing for England. He just seems anonymous.

Yeah, I'm a massive fan of Foden but it's very hard to argue he should be in the starting line-up in place of the others he's competing with in terms of his performances for England over the last year. 21 appearances now or something without a goal or assist for England isn't it?
We've not found a way to get the best out of him at all. Ironically his best games for England came when playing as part of the midfield 2

No but I did notice in the euros he would ping it into Trippier and Rice, move into space, then throw his hands up when they didn't pass it straight back. He's the kind of player that needs the ball played into him quickly as his balance and ability to take it on the half turn is world class. We don't use him like city do.

Netherlands in the semi he ran that game, he was also given a lot more space & we were playing a much quicker style of football

Give Pep the job - then we would see Foden thrive. (I am only half joking here, no way would he want the poisoned chalice!)

He's also hampered by Kane dropping into similar spaces (as is Bellingham as a 9.5) which made it more odd both were played but without Watkins when Kane was out.

But that is the tactics they are trained to play; I for one get frustrated when Kane drops deep, meaning there is no one to aim at in the penalty area. That should be the cue for one of the attacking midfielders to fill that gap; Rice did it a couple of times last night, but we don't do it frequently enough.

Do I read right that little Tommy Tuchel is now favourite for the England job. The man that completely turned Bayern Munich’s fortunes around. Seems like the obvious choice.
