What am I missing with the O'Neil is a right back talk? Just heard his interview on U'sTube where he says
"I got a lot of appearances there (Chesterfield), but it wasn't in my right position...I was playing right back"
Is he wrong?

In the words of Urban Cookie Collective, Bruce has 'The Key, The Secret'.

Ex-AFC Impington manager Brian Page, and the man himself have both confirmed that his best position is CM, and not RB.

Guess gives a bit of cover at RB though , should we ever need it.

Perhaps he can play RB in the same way that Max Clarke can play LB....

Now that (I think) we have accepted he has been signed as a CM, I am delighted to see we have some height in the centre of the park. I have lost count of the number of teams who have played us with 6F+ midfielders who have outmuscled us and won every header.
I think Derry has realised this is a major weakness for us, hence signing Liam and 6F3, Paul Lewis.

Brucey baby, he's a central midfielder. He may play central midfield. He may have been signed to play central midfield. He may be perfectly capable of paying central midfield. He is naturally a right back. And the prospect of playing in the middle of the park was one of the reasons behind his decision to drop down from League One. “I did think about it (stepping down a level), but I was playing at right-back at my previous club, just due to injuries and things like that, and I felt it was hindering my development as a player,” said O’Neil. “Hopefully I can come to Cambridge and play in my natural position of central midfield, and hopefully do the best for the team, for the club and for myself.” Bruce??

Had a good debut for me. Hopefully he can build on this.

Game of two halves for me. Excellent first half but a complete liability in the second.

Looks an upgrade on Clark and Newton in terms of quality on the ball.
I think we missed Newton's driving runs today though.

He looked quite composed on the ball and didn't seem to panic and was definitely and upgrade on Clark & Newton (who is surely out of the building come May). He wasn't helped by Derry's baffling substitution in taking Dunne off the last 20 mins though. Both Lewis & Berry were then it seemed to be playing in the same position. If only he had taken the anonymous Mingoia off and put one of them out right it could have been different.

Personally, I thought he had a terrible game. He never played a one touch ball, mostly played simple balls sideways and backwards and got in the way of Leon many times.
I hope this is just a case of first game nerves, fitness and fitting in.

I don't agree Cornish. I thought Liam made a composed and hard working debut today, a couple of mistimed and missed passes, but generally decent and tidy. Offered something a little different which was pleasing to see - he and James Dunne will be a good centre pair.
