Not sure what their expectations are for it or what they'd consider a failure of the experiment but yeah, it'll be interesting to see how it all wrinkles out over the season.
Not entirely sure what my expectations are for it either...perhaps instinctively that we'll lose out initially in year one and maybe year two, but that it's something you can only properly judge five years from now where I'd expect to see a larger home crowd.
It's a genuinely interesting move from the club.

I'd imagine it doesn't need to be full every week to be a success in the club's eyes, as long as the 'freed up' seats in the Main Stand are all sold.
But it is an exciting time and a bold and sensible move. It's just somewhat alien to us all to have this feeling we're in safe and ambitious hands.
That said, Tunbridge out, Strang out.

One of my thoughts about migrating youngsters especially to the South Stand is that the seats they will be mainly freeing up are those at the front of the main stand, bench seats with no back support. I wouldn't pay to sit on those.

I wouldn't pay to sit on those. I've been paying for about 30 years to sit on one of those.....but it's mine and I love the proximity to the pitch and dugouts. Fully agree it's a brave & bold move to relocate families to the south stand, just sad that it will make the players considerably more inaccessible for the kids. Lots of autograph and selfie hunters, especially around the pre-match warm up and they'll now be at the opposite end of the ground. On the plus side, it may help make the Abbey atmosphere a little more formidable for the opposition with more "adults" down the touchline towards the NRE in the main stand. Question: if, as reported, we can add seats, presumably with backs, in the Habbin for away supporters, why can't we upscale the benches in the main stand for home supporters? Or are we going for benches in the Habbin too?

Unless we change the end we warm up, though that alienates the Habbin kids if they remain and pretty much means the Habbin and NRE has the away team in front of them.
I wonder too if we'll move the pitch towards the south stand (or even widen/lengthen it)

I'm sure the club said they are expecting a loss of revenue, with the south stand switch, but building the fan base is priority, with the redevelopment oncoming, so a loss of revenue wouldn't be considered a failure.

Has it be confirmed if the pitch will be moved slightly toward the south stand? I was wondering if the pipe work beneath the pitch makes this possible, particularly if the pitch is not being relayed this year?

If they move the pitch towards the South Stand I believe the dugouts will have to be moved as well

One of the drivers here is likely that the club can create much improved family-friendly facilities if the family stand is self-contained, like the South Stand is; there is a limit to what can be done to improve the experience for kids in the Main Stand since it also has to cater for sponsors etc, whereas there is a load of room under the South Stand that can be put to good use on match days giving youngsters a good time, even when it is cold and wet.
We sold over 90% of home capacity on fifteen occasions last season, that's two thirds of games; in fact we sold over 90% for all but two games played on a weekend (most of the games under 90% were on Tuesday evenings). If we sold 90% you can pretty much guarantee that all seats had been sold.
This is a cracking initiative IMHO...

You know when you think your kid isn't great at something and they suddenly do really well, and it genuinely surprises and impresses you... this feels a bit like that.
Where you think "why would we limit away gates when we have some huge clubs in this league, and we'll potentially be missing out on that revenue", and then the club say "this is why". And you think "well rubbish me, that's a cracking idea".

I'm not convinced that the maintenance of last season's average attendance levels, let alone the continued annual increases will be as simple and straightforward as some people want to believe, but I admire the optimism and hope that it proves well founded.
It will be interesting to see what the final renewal window sales total is and how it compares with last season's total sales, equally how well the south stand sells.

Are STs now less value for money than they once were i.e. the number of games you can miss but still be better off has decreased?

It's an old design isn't it? Akin to us using the old diagonal CUFC lettering
