Coulson comes as a package and at this level I think his commitment etc more than compensates. He would be a big boast at this time in the same way he was when he took over from Roberts awhile back. It's all well and good looking to the future but he has attributes that we need here and now. Bring him back and let him go to Orient at the end of the season

A big shame for Josh to leave, but he's never quite stepped up to the levels that we need to be hitting. Commitment is great, but it only counts for so much, and he simply isn't the quality of centre back you need if you want to compete at the top end of the table.
That said, he'll be missed, and I'm really happy for him that he's found a club like Orient, where he can yet again make himself a fans favourite at a level I'm sure he can thrive at. Hopefully he can lead them back into the league, and we see him back at the Abbey in an M11 derby.

I don't quite get this idea that Josh wasn't up to the standard we require. He seemed pretty reliable before being loaned, and I wouldn't mind betting he'd be good enough for us now.

I think you were watching with amber tinted glasses. He’s too prone to mistakes. Not as good as Taft, Taylor or Legge, and ideally we’d be looking to upgrade again in summer.

According to Edinburgh, it sounds as though the Coulson deal is as good as done. A good lad, but nothing special at FL level, and probably at his correct level now. He's no worse than Taft

If Josh were to come back in January and go back in the team I feel that would send out the message that we are just going to complete the season with no real ambition. If we do have aspirations still to try and do something (as in get in the play offs) we would have to sign far better than Josh. Great servant and at his peak / level a great defender.

If there is anything in it between Taft and Coulson then I don't think it's much. The difference between the two is much smaller than the difference between, say, Elito and Brown for example.
Ultimately I suspect both are fine for a side in the lower half of division four, but probably not make many sides in the top 7.

This will be the message anyway. When they sack Derry in a week, the BOD will pretend we are looking to strengthen but won’t want to invest whilst we are managerless. So the season will be written off for a ‘big challenge’ after a good summer transfer window. Sound familiar?

The difference being Taft is left footed and we all know how obsessed Derry is with having a left footed CB.

Not a great deal between Josh and Taft, they have different strengths.
Taft has a better change of pace and an ability to carry the ball out of defence that Josh doesn't have in his locker.
That said, Josh is probably more capable at doing the defensive basics and is more of a threat from set pieces.
I love Josh to pieces, and he's more than capable of playing at this level, but as much as I'd like to see him back here, he's a third choice CB in a team that wants to push for the play-offs and I don't know that he'd want that at this stage in his career now he's found a club like Orient.

The truth is if Tafty has been very unlucky With injuries , he was outstanding the year Burton were promoted & wasn’t it with us a Couple of seasons ago he snapped his ACL IF he can stay injury free we’d have a great Player on our hands who’d go on to better Things I feel , the question is CAN he stay Injury free

When I've seen Taft play, including during his first spell with us, I have been impressed with him. More impressed than Coulson's performances in the Football League. I agree that they are two different types of defenders, perhaps I'm being a little unfair on Josh but to me Taft offers something different to the other centre backs we have where as Josh doesn't.
Coulson is a great player to have in the Conference, he's managed to join a fairly big club for that level and is actually playing. Plus by the looks of it enjoying his time there which is great to see. I think we've seen the last of Josh in a Cambridge shirt, though I'm sure we'll see him back at the Abbey as a fan.

Good to see Josh is back playing again after another 3 months out - hopefully he’ll stay fit now, I was starting to worry it might be a bit of Barry Corr situation.
Orient’s relegation worries look to be easing too which is good as we all know how horrible it is in that division.
