"Dan Gleeson is a complete tool. Shame really, as I always enjoyed watching him for the U’s"Quite. Still, freedom of speech does include the right to have somewhat questionable opinions on things so I'd defend his right to say it. Disheartening though it is to read. In LGBT history month too, Dan! Hrrumph. It strikes me as an ignorant opinion rather than one fueled by hatred, and having experienced both I find it makes a difference. Ignorance comes from a lack of understanding or experience and is something that can be overcome with discussion and understanding. Hatred is deep rooted. There 'aint no reasoning with someone who hates you because of who you're having sex with. Love is love, baby. Andrew He is quite entitled to his opinion but when you put it in the public domain, you have to accept the fact people may challenge it. It's the arrogance of him (and others) who seem to believe they can say what they like without any comeback.

Yeah, saw someone asked 'why do you think that' and he replied 'this isn't a question and answer session'
I'd have a bit of grudging respect if he could back himself up.

He does not represent anyone other than himself, and has a right to say what he likes. If you don’t agree with what he says, then so be it, that’s life. Just unfollow

It only really becomes a problem when people are no longer saying “I disagree and this is why...” and start saying “I disagree and therefore you shouldn’t be allowed to say it and it should be censored”.

Nobody will ever change their opinion by being told it is wrong and have no right to hold that opinion.
Education changes opinion not conflict.
Dan is entitled to hold his belief.
I would simply say to Dan- is it not better for a child to grow up in a loving household irrelivent of the parenting line up?

I would simply say to you- is it not better for a child to grow up in a loving household by a mother and father as nature intended. This board is full of snowflakes. He is not a bigot and neither is he ignorant. These are his opinions and views and for the record I entirely agree with him. To label him a 'bigot' and 'ignorant' is ignorance itself. I’d argue the most important thing is a child is raised by parents that love them and are competent to do so. Given that both good and poor parenting by heterosexual parents does occur, that suggests to me that there’s nothing about being straight that means you are any more likely to be good at it than a gay person. Sexuality has no bearing on a persons ability to be responsible, nurturing, loving or educational. Then there’s also the issue of how gay parents are becoming parents. I believe that most still adopt, (could be wrong on that, surrogacy, sperm donation and IVF etc does go on) which raises the question as to whether a kid is better off with two loving, competent gay parents that can give them a grounded family based upbringing, or whether they should be left to rot in the care system simply because there isn’t enough variety of genitalia in the couples pants.

I don't think so, a review and study by a large number of pediatricians and other experts found children raised by same sex couples were no different than those raised by heterosexual couples.
A study in Australia also came to the conclusion that children raised by same sex couples do as well physically, mentally and emotionally as those raised by heterosexual couples.
I think the studies disprove the theory that children need both a mother and a father to flourish. I think everyone would agree a child needs love and nurturing...so if they can get that, however they get it, I think that should be seen as beautiful.
