“Normandy Sunset” was a great Strange Brew track. Normandy sunset. Good memory!! Looking at your list I’m sure I must know you nuts? How about subculture? Subculture? The lads who went to Netherhall you mean? They were a year below me. As for the Clash, saw them 5 times-just brilliant. Went to some gaff in Stevenage once to see the UK Subs-top night, although a lot of pretty menacing skinheads around.

Does anybody have a connection with anybody who saw Elvis Presley live? Reckon that would have been a decent gig. Appreciate he never came to Europe.

Dean Tyrrell lead guitarist was Netherhall and a Barnwell boy. Didn’t he work in The Beat Goes On, as well? Remember Subculture had a couple of tracks on the Oi albums, one I remember in particular where the bass drum was totally out of sync- Stick Together. Not a patch on the likes of Thirteenth Chime who I knew originally as The Antics(from Haverhill).

Pete Matthews lead singer was Netherhall and a Romsey boy. Subculture also had a single released by Alan McGee (future Oasis manager) a collector's item now if you've got one kicking around your loft!!

Subculture also had a song called University City, an anti student rant. Pete and Dean were both Netherhall. I remember 13th Chime very well-Coffin Maker, Cuts of Love etc.
Anyone remember What Noise? My mates Dave Moule and Ian Powell were the bass player and drummer respectively. They were really good-I am very biased though!

I was thinking who I’d seen that could add something to these very impressive lists.
I couldn’t really think of any, maybe one... two.... four tops.

Parliament/Funkadelic. What were they like? Loved One Nation under a groove. The first time I saw them was in '94,I think, supporting Primal Scream. I saw them again a couple of years ago, too - George Clinton's P-Funk Allstars (?) were at Tramlines, Sheffield. Preferred 94 gig- they were very good, 'One Nation...' got an airing, both times, natch.

Thanks scooterboy, after an enjoyable trip down memory lane two things strike me. The first is that I cannot believe that I have never kept a list of the gigs that I went to - I'm sure I must be missing some from here.
The second is that, as someone has already said, support bands seldom seem to make much of an impression. I almost always get to gigs in good time to see them, but I'm blowed if I can think of (m)any that have been any good and/or made it in the their own right later. There is one lot in here that did fairly well for themselves I guess. They used to live quite close to where I was studying in the late 80s/early 90s and get pulled in to support bands at our SU at short notice...
So, covering 1986 to 2018 and throwing up a lot of old local Cambridge(shire)-based bands, I can offer the following: 1000 Yard Stare; 3Head; Beach Blanket Bingo; Beck; Bellowhead; Bicycle Thieves; Blackbeard's Tea Party; Breabach; Broken Family Band; Brooks Williams; Cherry Orchard; Crossland; Cure; Damned; Deftones; Demon Barbers; Depth Charge; Echo and the Bunnymen; Edward II; Eliza Carthy; Ezio; Faith No More; Family Cat; Faustus; Ferocious Dog; Foo Fighters; Gigspanner; Guana Batz; Gweilo; Half Man Half Biscuit; Hans Theessink; Hofman; Home Service; House of Love; Housemartins (first gig, 1986); I Strip 4 couples; InMe; Iron Maiden; Jacob's Mouse; Jamie Smith's Mabon; Jesus and Mary Chain; Jesus Jones; Jim Moray; Johnny Marr; Karine Polwart; Kathryn Tickell; L7; Levellers; Lindisfarne; Lonely; Mallory Knox; Manic Street Preachers (as support, several times); Marilyn Manson; Mawkin; Mega City Four; Megadeath; Megson; Metallica; Ministry; Mogwai; Morrissey; Noble Jacks; Nutmeg; Oysterband; Ozric Tentacles; Placebo; Pop Will Eat Itself; Prodigy; Professor Logik; Rev Hammer; Ride; Robbie Williams; Royal Blood; RURA; Rusty Shackle; Sam Kelly Trio; Seth Lakeman; Skippinish; Spiritualised; Spooky Men's Chorale; Stand; Stereophonics; Steve Knightley; Stone Temple Pilots; Stormed; Sugar; Surfin' Druids; This Replica; Treacherous Orchestra; Willows; Wonderstuff; Young 'Uns.

Love the fact that you've seen Jacobs Mouse, Kettlewitch!! The twins in the band (Jebb and Hugo) were really good mates of mine from school days. IIRC, they supported the Manics, not to mention a fledgling Nirvana back in the day.... At the time it felt like Bury was the British Seattle (haha!) Never thought I would see mention of them on this forum - you've made my day!
