Anyone remember this amazing burger place in Mill Road? Absolutely. On the right before the bridge as you were going down Mill Road from town. Used to open silly hours and was always the favourite port of call as we cycled home to Cherry Hinton after a night on the sauce in the Eagle.

But was it as good as ‘Captain America’s’ in Norwich?

Seem to recall it being not far down on the right, closer to the pool than the bridge? I used to generally pass it by and stop at the ABC for some beer-mopping-up spicy potatoes. Cycling pissed as a fart while eating a box of spicy potatoes was a skill that took some time to perfect. Remember taking refuge in Fudpuckers one night when there was a footie scrap by those railings near the pool, must’ve been an evening match, probably about ‘88.

Think you are right-it was probably close to where Barneys used to be. The ABC was another top post pub venue followed by a pissed bike ride home up the snaky path and past Blue Circle cement. Most weekends one of us would end up in A and E following a bike smash.

Anyone remember trying to pick off the cement that had encrusted onto the mesh fence around Blue Circle ? With that much crap in the air it's a miracle we're still alive.

Most weekends one of us would end up in A and E following a bike smash. I came off my bike on the snaky path in the early hours one freezing night, on that narrow bit by the brook behing St Bedes. Probably a combination of beer and the impact but it took me a minute of two to get up.Remember thinking how fortunate I was not to have landed in the freezing water. It made me think because around the same time a guy lost his life walking home on Barnwell Road. On the grass verge a couple of hundred yards from the railway bridge the brook suddenly cuts at right angles in front of you and the grass verge dips suddenly. Not a problem if you are on the tarmac path, but walking on the grass, in the dark, and a bit pissed... We’ve all probably been past thousands of times without even noticing, but the poor fella stumbled in and that was him.

Anyone remember the scrap yard which was I think where Kathleen Elliot Way now is? Proper old-skool place where you could take your tools and cannibalise the bits you needed. Has many a part for my Mk1 Escort from there. Bloody hell, reminiscing, I’m turning into my dad. Those Mk1’s worth a fortune now. Light weight, rear wheel drive. Drifting and handbrake turns. Can’t imagine the misery of being 18 now with a fwd Corsa.

On the way to the coast we raced each other down Airport Way (I think I got it up to 50mph) and mine promptly conked out on that dangerous junction with Newmarket Road where the roundabout now is. Had to push it out of the way of a lorry quite sharpish.

Had to push it out of the way of a lorry quite sharpish. Ha, mine was a basic one and knackered as well. My mates quickly moved on to the Mk1 Golf GTI which was the top dog back in the day, I really, really wanted one of those but thought it best to put the money elsewhere. That Escort had its wheels nicked outside a property I had in Milton Keynes and was last seen being unceremoniously loaded onto a flatbed truck in exchange for a tenner. Seems a long time ago now. The wife keeps telling me to treat myself to a Mk1 GTI now as she knows the story, but I dunno, I keep telling her one day. 15 to 20k now for a decent one with prices rising. Those Escorts going for similar wedge too with the desireable models unbelievable money. The price of nostalgia. Great days.

I am reminded of the cornering prowess of the MK1 Escort every time I look in the mirror accounting for a good 3/4s of the 100 plus stitches I have had in my face over the years.

I don’t know anything about the chap to be fair, and it’s very much putting two and two together assuming he stumbled in a bit pissed and just couldn’t get out. But it just seemed incredible someone could lose his life like that in the blink of an eye.
I had a place quite close by at the time and used to walk/cycle past regularly and it used to freak me out. I still think of it occasionally now if I go past from time to time.

Anyone been to the Museum of Cambridge? Went there in 1996, bloody good museum that. Although I love United I don't like driving round it. It's got worse.
