Tottenham support in Cambridge is huge, surely many attending tonight were spurs fans?

2025 people in attendance. We had less in the conference for some games 😠2,025 for a game against Tottenham’s youth team? That’s more than we got against Swindon in the League Cup this year. It seems the resistance to Premier League B teams being competitors to proper football teams has been well and truly broken 😠Don't be despondent! 2000 is only a third of the attendance of a decent league game, by no means something to point to as an argument for the success of the competition. People want to see the U's again, this is a great thing and extremely far removed from the days when we were losing 3-0 to the likes of Alfreton. EDIT- a boycott of this competition would be far more effective is none of us turned up for the final. A few low attendances in the qualifying rounds is irrelevant. The attendance was never going to be zero.

There is some strange justifications being given for attending a match where an Under 21 team play the United first team on an equal basis. Each to their own. The fact that winning a single match earns more in prize money than reaching the later rounds of the league cup shows that it’s not only the EFL that has sold its soul.

That wasn't the United first team...there were 8 changes from Saturday. From our point of view I think we're being given an opportunity for a number of players to get back from fitness (Okedina, Lankester) and then give game time to players like Weir and Smith. Look I know this competition's not perfect but I don't think it's the behemoth that people thought. And Bonner loves it. He'd have seen things tonight that he'd never have seen on the training ground. And for that I'm grateful. Anything that helps Bonner deliver another Masterclass on Saturday and then on Tuesday is fine in my book.

Exactly. Would rather the fringe players played a decent competitive game like that with the carrot of prize money rather than a pointless reserve team fixture.
I do think the competition itself needs a revamp. In what form I don’t know. I don’t believe the current setup is sustainable nor is the lack of prize money for the league cup.

And the people who run teams like Spurs U21 will see what a great club we are and loan us players like Tracey and Okedina who we can then sign and become part of our Blaze Of Glory. The positives are many and the effect a boycott of these games would have had, minimal. As I said previously, it would be more effective to boycott the final.

Definitely should boycott the final but for our next Pizza Crust Trophy game I'm going to start a new thread for that actual match ....I'm out there and I'm doing it...boycott it at will....I just don't care anymore....(weeps passionately into a lavender-scented 'kerchief)....

I wonder how many of the 2000 will be at our games this year though.

Moderators/Russ/Mike, can we shut down this thread and instead have a separate thread for each match in the Pizza Cup? I mean I'm no motivational expert but when the thread title is about boycotting the trophy and you then have performances like tonight and last time against Oxford....I mean Kai must love reading that his games weren't quite in the league with watching porn hub...Jaysus wept ...whatever the wrongs and rights of this competition it's an opportunity for younger players and sidelined players and recovering players to get back on the pitch and start playing. Put the obstacles aside and this could be a great way to bring the fringe through. Also Leon Davies was in the squad. Unless you've a heart of granite that was special. they used to shoot collaborators.

I am so bored of the boycott nonsense, it's just becomming tiresome. I have watched the match on Ifollow and buzzing about the positives: Players who could be stepping into the first team are getting valuable minutes on the pitch, Leon Davies/ Okedina has played after injury, Lancaster is close to a 1st team start, May has continued good form, it's a different type of game to work out tactics for which add to your knowledge base, Iredale has again demonstrated he can move into centre if required and another good performance from Kai Yearn. Also, Mark Bonner has used the competition to showcase youngsters and get some good loans for them.
I actually feel the U21's coming in add value for all and again emphasizes that cup competitions can bring in ideas which push a boundary. Furthermore, there is a huge difference between a quirk in what is essentially a developmental competition and something more sinister to the football pyramid.
The games happening and I have no intention of missing out on a good evenings entertainment because there is a narrative which I don't agree with.
Completely agree that these matches should have their own thread.

It’s the first one I’ve been to since the start of the competition. I really wanted to see Kai Yearn in the flesh before he leaves us. It was actually a decent game. The Spurs number 54 was outstanding, a real privilege to watch. This competition is fine if it stays as it is. The talk of B teams seems to have gone quiet so hopefully it’s going away. The average age of the crowd tonight was probably about 10. Oh and I agree about Knibbs, he’s stalling badly. Smith looked good though. Lankester did ok, expected more of Weir but he wasn’t terrible or anything. But the kid Yearn, he has a buzz about him, would love to see him in a league game in the near future.

Let's see who can get to be the first to start the proper match thread on the Pizza Crust Trophy because this thread is dead ....and a new one is about to be born (I'm becoming more like David Brent everyday)

Honestly, it’s shameful.
Appreciate people taking kids but other than that nah.
At least four of the Spurs side - John, Clarke, Devine and White - are in and around the first team squad semi-regularly so it was a decent test but this competition needs to be ignored and to be honest this probably our worst night in a long long time seeing that attendance, up there with heavy defeats in non-league.
