If I was Jonny Bairstow, I'd be wondering when my next Test match appearance was coming. He is behind both Buttler and Foakes for the gloves and doesn't impress enough as a specialist batsman. A promising time in Sri Lanka is quickly forgotten after his performances in India. It mystifies me why he went home for a break. I heard Root talk earlier about "looking after the players", giving them rest, but to me, we seem to be resting them from the Test team, knowing they are going to pick up big bucks playing 20/20 over the next couple of months. It's almost getting to the stage for me when we should ask the players which form of the game they want to play in, and select them just for that, taking the opportunity to build a stable and settled Test team, which we haven't got at the moment. Don't think it's true we're just resting from the test team. Root is missing the ODIs, quite a few players sat out the South Africa series & even more last summer when totally different squads played Ireland, Pakistan and Australia. Whether you like it or not we need to let players play IPL to top up their income & play against the best players, especially in a World Cup year & it can't be easy moving hotel room to hotel room, there's only so much Call of Duty one can play. If we forced players to pick test cricket the standard would drop because unless you're one of the 7/8 best male cricketers in three countries in the world, there's no money in it.

I get that, but I didn't see the West Indies or Pakistan sending players home in the middle of the test series last year! There is a lot (probably too much) cricket in the calendar over the next 12 months, so I understand that we have to limit the workload, but I just think its a shame that the purest form of the game is suffering because of it.

20/20s start tomorrow. Interesting to hear Eoin Morgan's answer when he was asked if England were prioritising the 20/20 World Cup. He doesn't think so, despite England resting and rotating the Test team, but funny old thing, every player he wants is back for the white ball game. I think he had his fingers crossed while he slipped that little fib out!

I think it's fair Morgan gets a strong squad considering he spent 2020 with the B team as the best players were in the test bubble.

That was as dominant as it gets - but then so was the First Test. I'd like to think this group will be able to sustain that level of performance though.

Brilliant performance. I hope it’s not like the Test matches where India are caught napping before battering us in the later games!
T20 is a fearless game. Basically swing the bat. I think that suits our players as we don’t get too caught up with what the pitch may or may not do.
