Archer out injured, Anderson rested, Bess dropped and Buttler gone home.
In come Broad, Woakes, Stone, Moeen and Foakes into the playing 12. Looks like it’ll be a toss-up between Woakes and Stone for the final playing position. I’d be tempted to play Woakes as he’s proven to be reliable and decent with the bat. Isn’t his record outside of England poor though or am I imagining things? I don’t know a lot about Olly Stone so can’t pass judgment.

Would imagine Woakes be given the nod due to experience. Moeem something to prove now as well, so be good to see if he can raise his game.

That's quite a set of changes for a team that played so well in the first test. I appreciate two changes are enforced, but there goes the adage "Never change a winning team"!

Will be interesting to see how it goes. Happy to see Moeen but he will have a bit to prove, Woakes has generally been very reliable for England so would be happy to see him. Don't know anything about Stone and don't remember seeing Foakes. All the bowlers there have shown at various times they can bat a bit which may compensate for losing the power of Buttler.

I think we should go for Stone, Norfolk's finest.

The image of Kohli standing his ground after being cleaned up by Moeen will live long in the memory!

Great player but an arrogant man. Personally I prefer Rahane’s style of captaincy.

Deserved/merited arrogance, but made himself look a right tit there.

I just don't think he thought he could have been bowled by a delivery that pitched so far wide of the stumps, perhaps he thought it was an attempted stumping?
That is a poor pitch for a test match though, breaking up already, this game won't go four days, let alone 5, and I fear it won't go our way!

England's first innings about as good as our performance against Southend yesterday. Umpiring shocking again but thats not the reason we will lose this test. Onto the 3rd at 1-1.

Yep, Rohit has played brilliantly and their spinners especially Ashwin are in a different league. Even if we’d picked Bess instead of Broad/Stone, I think we’d still be in a similar position. In our batting unit we’re slightly deficient on spinning pitches and our bowling isn’t as skilled as India’s. We’re unable to restrict the scoring and thus increase the chance of them making a mistake.
Some positives - Ben Foakes. Fabulous keeping and he looked a very assured and calm batsman. Does Bairstow play as a specialist batsman when he’s available this series? What happens when you have Bairstow, Buttler and Foakes available in the future?
Let’s hope we can get a respectable 200+ score in the final innings to restore some pride. I hope the Ahmedabad pitches are somewhere in between the two Chennai ones I.e. not a road but not a minefield on day 1.

The silence on here is telling. Even by English standards that fourth innings was meek. Even the captain looked like he'd given up. Pink ball next, bit more swing? Do we buck the trend and play both Anderson and Broad? Bairstow and Wood are in India now. In theory Crawley and Archer are both available. I can see Bairstow back at three although I have some sympathy for Lawrence, another example of an England debutante doing so abroad(and India ffs) AND being played out of position. Moeen returns to the UK tomorrow but returns in March for the short form stuff. The ECB doesn't do eco-travel,does it? How Bairstow is 'refreshed' after spending two and a half days on a plane and a bus since leaving Colombo I'm not so sure. Stokes hasn't done much in this test either apart from catch, and drop. And Burns? Can't get runs for toffee. I hear the management 'like' him though. He does look like he's joined a Hell's Angels chapter.
I have all the issues guys but few solutions! I'm sure you will.
