I guess in the last 2 years we've been more likely to aim for Ironside from set pieces, or Williams who loves a good near post flick. Teams without a target man will be more reliant on their centre backs (like Darling at MK Dons - for all his qualities Twine wasn't an arial threat).

Not sure we do aim for Ironside really – as you say, we tend to try to be a bit cleverer. I'm certainly struggling to think of any goals he's scored from them anyway.
We scored the third-fewest goals (9) from set pieces in the division last season, were joint-13th for them (12 goals) the year before despite winning automatic promotion (although obviously, goals were hardly a problem in that season), and fourth-fewest (8 goals) in 19/20.
It's definitely an area that we need to improve in.

Yeah I do enjoy a thunderous header from a CB, or an edge of the box screamer a la Taylor. If we're discussing goals from defenders, Hatswell's free kicks deserve a mention.

Not having his best game today. Why single him out? There’s been plenty worse

Recycling an old thread in the hope we can all remember that for a little under two years, Jubril Okedina was looking like an excellent young talent for us. Half a season on loan as we won promotion, then a solid first season full season and a good start to 2022/23... then the wheels fell off around this time last year.
Just my opinion, but I think the lad needs to be playing to get back on track and clearly, he isn't going to be doing that with us on a regular basis any time soon.
Surely there's a League Two club who will have him on loan in January? He's got 18 months left on his deal and I really think there's still a very good player in there somewhere.
Any chance he can go to Walsall, have a storming second half to this season, and return here in the summer as the bright young prospect he was 12 months ago?

He was shafted a bit last season, most games he played in he was with either Rossi or Taylor. Neither complemented him very well and it highlighted his weaknesses even more
I think he'd be absolutely fine next to Bennett or Morro but i'd rather not test that theory for as long as we can

As long as we all agree he's a CB...

Yeah he was a bit of a victim of circumstance last season when he did play last season. Think a loan would suit him but we'd need to bring in a right-back first for that to happen. If he went out that would also preclude Jobe from doing so you'd think. Certainly couldn't let them both go.

True, I had disregarded the fact he is cover for Bennett at RB. Could any of our LBs play RB (Haunstrup for example), the same way Williams could switch between RB and LB fairly well.

As we grow as a club we are going to have to develop and sell on the better young players. Hate to say it but its something that lot up the road have done for several years. Lennett may be the next one after Darling to get a move and hopefully the likes of Yearn, Mcconnell and Hoddle can all turn into first team players for us. Trick now is involving them enough in the first team apart from some Trophy games. I agree that possibly Okedina could benefit from a Lennett style loan to Div 2 club in January. Simper too probably needs to go to out as well.

Ricky-Jade Jones aside, I can't think of the last player they actually produced, rather than simply bought and played for a couple of seasons.
