Ricky-Jade Jones aside, I can't think of the last player they actually produced, rather than simply bought and played for a couple of seasons. To be fair, either method works. £300k for Toney turned out pretty well for them.

If you have £300k to spend (or write off, if needs be) in the first place. The £1.1m for Tyrone Barnett didn't turn out so well, for instance, & there aren't many clubs who were in the position they were at the time that could take that hit.
It can become self-perpetuating at some point, as it largely has with them now & for that to happen you need to get more right than wrong so fair enough for that, but you need to be in a position to be able to shell out a lot of money initially. Let's not pretend they didn't buy their way into that cycle in the first place.

They will get a bit for Edwards probably as well though have to give Barnet 50% in a sell on for getting him for free at the time.

This is true; Barry Fry is very adept at unearthing gems from the lower leagues and developing players to an extent where they are saleable assets. I was recently talking to a Non League Chairman at Step 4 (same as Cambridge City), who says Fry is a regular visitor to their matches - he shudders every time he turns up because he knows that any of his young jewels could be gone at a moment's notice, with no compensation, as it isn't cost effective to have players on contract at that level of football. No transfer fee, no sell on, nothing. Obviously the great majority don't go on to have a successful professional career, but it's a case of mining for gold, every now and then a gem comes along that can turn a huge profit. One of the problems with our 'modus operandi' of late is that we have players whose contracts make them 'non-saleable', leaving as free agents when the contract expires. Something we ought to look closer at especially players like Lennett and Brophy, who won't be short of suitors.

Mining for gold and you find...a gem?

I think of all the players we have out of contract in the summer, Brophy and Okenabirhie are the only two regular starters who might not stay and who we would really miss on the pitch. I'm assuming Morro will extend and remain with us until he retires within that statement and of course we will also miss Dunk when he eventually goes (although we should make him life president).
And of course we've seen it before with Mullin, Ireland, Jones, Knibbs, Smith, Dimi, etc. All players who we might have got fees for, if they were on longer deals, who all got to walk away.
But I guess the trade off with one or two year deals is that we're not then committed to someone like Haunstrup for three or four years. And I don't meant that in a nasty way to the lad, who has probably had a tough 14 months on a personal level, but I think we can all agree his injuries have meant he's not been a good signing, regardless of how talented he might or might not be.
The positive with Brophy and Fejiri is that they're not youngsters anymore, so signing on for a couple more years with us may be a reasonable possibility.

Didn’t look totally out of place last night. Would like to see him replace Liam Bennet on Saturday at RB.

Yeah I was thinking that towards the end of the game - it was a surprisingly decent performance from a centre back considering we lost 3-0. Well worth a run in the side again I think, but at centre back still for me.

Agree with above he needs his chance. I would keep him in and Drop Morrison for Saturday who is starting to look his age unfortunatley. Try him with Rennett this time.

I’m assuming the main reason for Bonner not being removed is to give Morrison more time before he retires and becomes our next manager.

Has Morrison expressed a wish to go into management in the future ? I don’t know, but I would be slightly surprised if he didn’t want to go into management at some stage, to me he just seems like that kind of player. Dunk would be the next player to move onto something else but I can’t see him being a manager or involved in coaching.

Has Morrison expressed a wish to go into management in the future ? He'll be in the line after Chadwick's forced to take the job against his will first.

Has Morrison expressed a wish to go into management in the future ? Management specifically I don't know, but he's done a fair few badges (think he's up to his B licence) & certainly talks in a way that suggests he'll be looking at a future in coaching. On Okedina, feels weird to say someone looked decent in a defence that conceded 3 but he had his best game for a while. Was wondering what being picked last night means. Is it the start of a chance for him to nail down a shirt at CB? I expect he'll start on Saturday.
