Jubril has been called into the Malawi squad for the next international break. I may have missed it, has he played for Malawi before, or is that his first call up? Does make you laugh at the quality of some international sides... surely there must be better players in Malawi playing week in week out? I like Jubs but at the end of the day he cant break into a struggling L1 side (apart from half a dozen games)

The average salary is about £500 a year. Male life expectancy is 58 years old. There will be next to no investment in football and footballers. On the other hand, Okedina plays in the 3rd tier of arguably the best football pyramid in the world and earns at least £50,000 a year (guess) and trains at facilities costing 3.5 million... Not really a laughing matter.

Imagine achieving that and then becoming an international footballer too. Whether you represent the team 1st or 200th in the world rankings you should be incredibly proud and as said above to do so for a country like Malawi has extra meaning given the socio-economic status of things and the power sport has. Beyond me why a supporter of a club would be taking the piss out of a player achieving something most of us could only ever dream of.

Hate to see what you’d have put if you didn’t.

He'll come up against Bonne then I think won't he? It'll make a chance to see Okedina concede and Bonne not score in different shirts 😏 Chuffed for Jubs. Hope he gets a good chance to shine on the international stage (despite moronic comments trying to undermine his achievement).

Hate to see what you’d have put if you didn’t. I think people are taking the comment about laughing at the quality of some international sides out of context a bit, and was meant to imply that it's surprising that Malawi are selecting a player who doesn't get in a League 1 team that frequently. Malawi are currently ranked reasonably high at 122 in the FIFA Rankings, just above Europe's Estonia (123) and Cyprus (125), and virtually all of the Malawi team come from their own country, so perhaps the Team selectors are trying something different in picking a player from outside of Africa. As for Malawi, they have had some half decent results recently with wins against Zambia, Seychelles and Comoros last year and a decent draw against South Africa who finished 3rd in the African Cup this year. Its great for Okedina that he has been selected for Malawi, but seems a strange time to be selected, perhaps Malawi have only just realised hes eligible, as he is described as born in London, with Nigerian descent.
