Just read a fourfourtwo article that rates our badge at 58 out of the 92 league clubs. Expected to see it in the bottom 20%. Peterborough ranked at 60 fyi. Top 5 are Forest, Wolves, Barrow, Barnsley & Newcastle.

Consultation going out to fans I know I'm in the minority here, but I think our current badge is important. Part of our identity. We wore it during our best ever season, and wore it when we got back in the league. The same is true of the AU crest of course, but y'know, it's got the wrong letters. I'll take this over any shield, roundel, or coat of arms (there are dozens of each, and some Crawley monstrosities that manage all three), and I can't think why you'd want to change it to something else. I wouldn't be opposed to neatening it up though. The football itself has always looked a little off, especially between the letters. We could have our motto instead of our name in the banner. That sort of thing. Don't take our toilet seat away.

They’ll be a few Tatt’s that will become redundant/obsolete
Do we really think it needs changing ?

I like our current badge so will be voting for it to remain, unless the alternative suggestions blow me out of the water. The mock ups I’ve seen in the past have been terrible and hideously out dated.

I don't think the consultation includes alternative options, more canvassing opinion about whether to change or not.
I think it's a bit of a pointless exercise without suggested options for a new design, meaning it probably won't be conclusive, meaning that whichever option is taken will be criticised by those who disagree. (Which is quite often the case!)

I dont think it needs changing necessarily. I'd be open to a change though, as long as it was a well thought out design that's relevant to our club and the city. I'd hate to have something like what Juventus changed to a few years ago.

Pretty tacky word art attempt at the moment. Obviously it could be worse, but nothing would improve if we left every mediocre thing the same from fear of change.
UIE should definitely feature in there somewhere.

The more I've thought about it, the more I want to keep our current badge. I loved going back to it in the late 90s, it felt right after the United In Endeavour badge and I didn't like the centenary badge either (although I appreciate that was always a 1 season only badge for a good reason).
Love it or loathe it, it's part of our identity. In the same way Coconuts is, in the same way Marvin The Moose is - changing this is losing and denying this is part of our identity and history as a club. Modernising it for the sake of modernising it doesn't seem right.

I’m on the fence about it. It’s the only badge I’ve ever known as a fan so I feel some sort of sentimentality to it. Clearly it could be better but it could also be a lot worse. I’d like to see some potential options but with the option of staying with the current one (or maybe some minor tweaks to it).

(Which is quite often the case!) I don’t really get the point of consulting 27,000 people or whatever if there is no other options presented. Or even a hint at what it could be .(eg circle, coat of arms, shield or current). If it’s a re-brand explain what the new mission statement is, or is this just a tick box exercise because our shadowy board mentioned it?

Just some timelines here.
1912 to 1951 - AU monogram.
1951 saw the change in name so no longer AU. However no new badge. Literally no badge until 1974(see below).
1964(ish) the ORIGINAL UIE crest was created but never used on a shirt in that form, until the Newport game in 2020/21. We did see a version on the yellow(sic) and black quartered shirt 1996-98.
What's incredible(to me at least) is that we literally had no badge on the books as CUFC between 1951 and 1964 but were known to nick the City of Cambridge coat of arms from time to time to stick on eg the programme cover. Tinpot.
1974 the book and ball arrived(actually designed in '73) which survived on the shirt until 1977, remained in the background until 1986 although in reality CUFC only lettering was on the shirt from 1977/8 until 1985/6.
1986 - the amoeba arrived and an amoeba with stamina.
Evening all.(more to come)

Why are we mending something that isn’t broken, This designing of a new badge isn’t free, doesn’t the club think we could spend our money on something more important, there is things ruining our match day experience, and they want to spend money on a new crest

New badge could lead to increased brand awareness, and a greater sense of ownership if the community helped in the process. And if the fans say no, then little money spent and we're all gravy. Rather this than the usual route of excitedly yelling about a new badge upon reveal that could've been anyone's at a glance. As I say, wouldn't want a new badge myself. It's fair to say you've got more skin in the game though. ;)
