I remember the local plod being rather officious that day and dragging a few out of the away terrace, seemingly for innocuous looking 'offences'! I’ve got a feeling that was the evening game a season or two later (although it may well have been that one as well). Top, top atmosphere. Electric. Fuelled by anxiety, togetherness and a real belief we could win the game. Even the Cambridge Aces wouldn’t have been able to sabotage that noise. We can have waved those little flags. How much did that cost?

I went to Aldershot three times in the early 90's and the police were ejecting U's fans for pointing, celebrating our goals too enthusiastically and looking at the Aldershot fans in a stern way. Seems like they hadn't changed much in 25 years. Yes the policing was appalling in that 1990 game when we sealed our play off place. One of my first away games that Aldershot game was, think we won 2-0?

Yea the Aldershot game was a fine one, half forgotten because of the emotionally busy seasons that followed.
Mad that it's 16 years. In those days I used always to wear a cotton t-shirt beneath a replica shirt to protect my middle-class skin, so I'm not sure whether whipping my Cambridge shirt off at full time to swirl around my head had the desired cool effect. Probably preferable to displaying my awkward frame.
Charlie Ademeno, the Jamie Guy of those few weeks sort of.

Also we outnumbered the home fans, glorious day. What a great day that was a really warm day in a very full ‘away’ end. I think they give us the home end for the match because there was so many of us. Even then their ground was quite poor. We stood in the covered stand in the bright sunshine as there was a panel missing in the roof. Not sure if it was that match or another at Aldershot, but we walk behind a small stand with home supporters in on the way in. Then as the queue for the food bar at half time was long, my dad went to look for another in the home supporters stand. Not sure if he found it but he come back with a large plate of sandwiches from the home hospitality bar. I liked our visits to Aldershot, including the win in the FA Cup match on a Friday (?) evening.

Nothing to do with football but it was 30 years ago today that Stephen Lawrence was murdered. The fact that it took another 18 years to convict 2 of the racist filth that did it is a really sad comment on the Met and maybe our society in general.

It’s amazing how much about society has changed over the las 30 years, but not as impressive as how some things haven’t changed at all.

Yea the Aldershot game was a fine one, half forgotten because of the emotionally busy seasons that followed. We also won at Aldershot in the first round of the FA Cup the year we lost to Palace in the quarter-finals. An even more forgotten game! And deservedly so, it was a bit rubbish. And another oft-forgotten game just before the one at Aldershot that got us in the play-offs was the 2-1 win at 'boro just before it that saw us leap-frog the scummers in to those play-off positions. Our winning goal? Dion Dublin

On this day in 1982 I visited The Abbey for the first time, a 2-1 defeat to a a Leicester City side featuring Gary Lineker and supported by my Dad. I think I've shared this before but in case not...a collage of photos taken 24/04/82 & 24/04/12. I'd love to be able to add to this when I'm 78!

Nothing of any interest has happened to the club on this date. Particularly in 2009
