Lets hope that someone can make a Rimpsonesque name for themsleves in the survival battle this season and feature in any future books! Smith's on the way... Remains one of my all-time favourite Cambridge games that Aldershot match, and still one of the best atmospheres I can remember. Sadly couldn't make Newcastle, so it's my favourite away game (unless you count the play-off final as "away"). The Man Utd replay was great as a moment in terms of watching us step out there, but the day and match itself wasn't exactly great.

I was gonna ask if anyone had footage? Is there a write up somewhere?
I have a tendency forget the poor seasons (it's quite helpful..!) but I do remember this result, I was at a wedding that day and could barely contain my joy, along with another U who was there. But I can't remember much about the season or the match other than the result. How many fans did we take?

I couldn’t make that game as I had to work in the morning, but I’ll never forget the looks I got when having a full on mental at Thriplow tip when I heard the goal on the car radio whilst unloading.

That quality terrace at Aldershot too where your next to the home fans so was a cracking atmosphere. Absolute limbs

Yeah, it's right up there. Unreal atmosphere. Incredible under that tin roof. Robbie POTY deservedly if only for scoring one of, if not the most important Us goals ever.

We absolutely battered them in the game itself, but a combination of wayward finishing and Nikki Bull pulling off a string of incredible saves kept it at 0-0. It was exceptionally annoying given they were safe in midtable (12th I think?) and had been for ages.
Can't remember the exact goal time but I feel like it was in the final 10 or 15 minutes of the game. Pitt got away down the left and pulled the ball across the goal. It seemed to roll across so, so slowly – took an absolute age to trundle across the 6-yard box & I couldn't believe no one was on the end of it. Until, of course, Simpson was.
The paroxysms of joy and relief on the terrace after that were just incredible. We'd been chanting all match and it went up several notches in volume for the final 15. U's are staying up say U's are staying up.
Seem to remember a police escort back to the coaches (club had offered subsidised travel for it – think it cost a fiver, so there were quite a few) & a few bricks were lobbed by Aldershot wrong'uns.

I remember the local plod being rather officious that day and dragging a few out of the away terrace, seemingly for innocuous looking 'offences'!

I’ve got a feeling that was the evening game a season or two later (although it may well have been that one as well). Top, top atmosphere. Electric. Fuelled by anxiety, togetherness and a real belief we could win the game. Even the Cambridge Aces wouldn’t have been able to sabotage that noise.

Definitely that day, I was standing on the side terrace (hate standing behind the goal!), saw quite a few being taken out.

I went to Aldershot three times in the early 90's and the police were ejecting U's fans for pointing, celebrating our goals too enthusiastically and looking at the Aldershot fans in a stern way. Seems like they hadn't changed much in 25 years.
