April 12th 2014 - I took my 4yo daughter to her first match, a 7-2 win over Hyde. She absolutely loved it and was desperate to get back to The Abbey. In hindsight, a marching band before kick off, a goal right in front of us within 54 seconds of kick off, 9 goals in total, and the ringing out of coconuts to an ecstatic crowd set an incredibly high bar that wasn't likely to be matched. A warning sign was the 20 minute period in the second half where there wasn't a goal and she asked why nothing was happening... Her next game, and the first for my son, was a dour 0-0. There were further visits, but that 7-2 set unrealistic expectations. Now there's no way I can get her to a game. Her brother can be persuaded, but it's mainly for the chips and the fun of watching me totally absorbed in something in a way that seldom happens at home. Still, there'll always be Hyde and that photo of her stood in the Main Stand waving a paper amber & black flag with an excited grin from ear to ear. The one I'm not allowed to show her because it's so embarrassing! Was that the game when Andy Pugh scored a hatful? Yes, he bagged 4 I think?

Main memory of that game is our fans ironically cheering one or both Hyde goals, as they’d been so unbelievably poor all season.

The previous season was the game where we lost 1-0 at home to them after an utterly dismal performance. That was the low point for me...

Pugh scored four then got dropped for the next game, which was what the kids would call "peak Richard Money."

Jesus. I wouldn't have guessed 16 years. Hardly seems possible.

Looks like there is a book (or two!) where we can read all about it!

Lets hope that someone can make a Rimpsonesque name for themsleves in the survival battle this season and feature in any future books!
