Won the FA Trophy nine years ago today. I know at times we as fans knocked the competition, but it truly was a cracking day out. It’s a weird part of our history. Winning a competition we had no wish to be in. But I do believe it made going back to Wembley in May easier. I met a random U who’d named his twins John and Becky

Getting the Wembley hoodoo off our backs after the previous two play off finals was a massive deal ahead of the return trip a few weeks later. I genuinely think it gave the team the belief that they would beat Gateshead no matter what.

I am convinced it played a major part in us winning the play off final a couple of months later even though there were 4 changes to the starting line ups between the 2 games

An unhappier on this day today..
I did a work event the day or so after where I met a Blackpool fan. He didn't seem to know much about the game, mind, and I was in no mood to talk about it either.

Yes. About the only good thing to say about it is that I've ticked off the Millennium Stadium.

My first time seeing us in a 'large' stadium. Left feeling quite low if I remember right, the trip back up the M4 was not one I recall with any joy.

Best part of that weekend was the Saturday night out in Cardiff. The Sunday has almost been wiped out from my memory bank

Hey ho, I’m still here ………as for my head, well this season’s been one big headache but will be soothed by a Miracle of an escape ! Here’s hoping, eh !!

Best part of that weekend was the Saturday night out in Cardiff. The Sunday has almost been wiped out from my memory bank The Saturday night in Cardiff was class. Like a lot of other U’s we stayed at The Hilton, a mere stroll from the Millenium Stadium. After a well lubricated evening we ended up gatecrashing a wedding reception in the hotel where I vaguely remember crooning a song about Barry Fry.

Not sure about the Hilton on my budget Jerry more like a guest house nearby that I was worried it could end up like the one in the Jolly Boys Outing in Margate with Del Boy I was surprised I didn’t see any trouble in town that night as England had stuffed the Welsh in rugby that day & a fair few of us were out on the lash

April 12th 2014 - I took my 4yo daughter to her first match, a 7-2 win over Hyde. She absolutely loved it and was desperate to get back to The Abbey. In hindsight, a marching band before kick off, a goal right in front of us within 54 seconds of kick off, 9 goals in total, and the ringing out of coconuts to an ecstatic crowd set an incredibly high bar that wasn't likely to be matched. A warning sign was the 20 minute period in the second half where there wasn't a goal and she asked why nothing was happening... Her next game, and the first for my son, was a dour 0-0. There were further visits, but that 7-2 set unrealistic expectations. Now there's no way I can get her to a game. Her brother can be persuaded, but it's mainly for the chips and the fun of watching me totally absorbed in something in a way that seldom happens at home. Still, there'll always be Hyde and that photo of her stood in the Main Stand waving a paper amber & black flag with an excited grin from ear to ear. The one I'm not allowed to show her because it's so embarrassing!
