Yeah, don't feel too down after that. We need to win next week. The pressure now is absolutely MASSIVE...on the poster who chooses to start the match thread. Obviously not telling peeps how to construct these but PORT VALE (H), PORT VALE (h) and Port Vale (Home) are all good. Just saying...

Tough one to pick the bones out of, we were basically okay but the gift goals just have to stop, to state the bleedin’ obvious. Doesn’t seem to matter who plays, someone does that every week. You just can’t give Lee Gregory chances like that. I thought Williams at RCB was an odd choice with Okedina and Rossi available and playing a back three, but he was fine. I rate Tracey but he doesn’t seem to want to take players on, which should be sort of the point of a player with his attributes. Digby was better than he has been of late, Knibbs battled well and made a few great runs. I feel sorry for Ironside, almost all our long punts forward went straight to their No. 5, or out of play and on the few occasions he got something to chest/waist height no one was near him to receive.

Next game is now a must win and would love it if we could manage a clean sheet.
Today we have been beaten by a better quality and better drilled team. We need a spark so wonder if next week presents a better opportunity.

Why do people feel sorry for Ironside? He’s been poor all season and unfortunately he’s been found out.
We showed good endeavour today but too many mistakes and players playing with the hand break on is seeing us fall short.
Taylor with a Sunday league error but after that done ok. Brophy was my MOM but Christ what’s happened to Williams? He’s not the leader he was last season. Players dip in and out of form but he looks like he’s hiding at the moment.

"Found out" suggests he's been lucky in the past, which I don't think is true. He's just a recognised threat so being marked out of games more than previously. I also think it's a weird game to pick out Williams, as I thought he had a better game today and was involved in a lot down the right. Certainly didn't seem to shy away for me.

How annoying.
I thought Greg played well overall but clearly that's not going to be the talking point from the game. I don't think the first one was quite as (Gr)egregious as some will though, as I saw it he was trying to quickly adjust his body position after the rapid turnover and struggled with what was, in fairness, a very quickly whipped ball across him. Possibly no harder to deal with than the high dropping ball he controlled and cleared under pressure after about 60 minutes, though. He should be doing better for sure.
Not sure what happened with the second, I thought it was an own goal so I'd need to see it again.
The formation looked a bit odd to me, a narrow 3-4-1-2, perhaps? It worked to at least control the midfield to an extent but I'm not sure it gave us any width or attacking options.
Ironside looks as though he's carrying the scars of the last two years to me. The willingness is there as always but he looks...'smaller' this year. Easier to bump off the ball, heavy legged. Not such a great out ball as he's been for two years.
Simper looks like a quietly effective footballer as he has in every game so far. Maybe needed to be a little more decisive at times but I'm not going to worry too much about a player confident enough to take a bit of time on the ball.
Dimi was limping throughout, hopefully he's ok for next weekend because it looked like quite a heavy whack.
Wednesday were pretty ordinary too. I thought there were a lot of positives to take from the game in the way we kept them quiet and how we just about had the most possession in a game we'd typically fare much worse in - I'd say it was about a 53/47 in our favour compared to the about 40/60 in derbys favour or 35/65 against Ipshit and that feels like progress of sorts. It's all a bit brute force attack again though, I can't remember us particularly getting behind them or creating anything clear cut.

Sounds like emergency keeper loan time.

First half it looked we’d already decided we’d get beat. No obvious leader on the pitch or on the sideline unless you count taking more notes than would be necessary for an end of degree thesis. The individual mistakes are simply glossing over more fundamental issues. Too many players have little to no competition for their positions or are benefitting from blind loyalty from the coaching staff. The spirit of the last couple of seasons seems to have evaporated. The frustration stems not from losing but the knowledge that we can be, should be and need to be better than this.

SVH - What's happened to Sam Smith more like. Can't see him staying here after Jan and he and Ironside can't win headers with balls that fail to get over the 1st man for me Tracey has lost the will to run at players and keeps turning back

I was frustrated with MJ's constant references to Ironside being isolated even though Knibbs and Smith were for the most part pushed up near him and Tracey and Brophy did more attacking than defending. He's certainly got a role to play but I'd like to see Smith or Okenabirhie through the middle for a couple games.

I think it is becoming quite noticeable that they are arguing with each other a great deal. Last season this was not the case. Has the Rotherham interview unsettled things behind the scenes? Not sure how to respond to today's performance. We did limit SW normal play especially second half. Our passing not good enough and delivery into the box. Not once did it hit a Utd player. Thought Simper had good game but they need to work on things in training on set pieces. Smith & Fejiri may be good option as a front two. They both can hold ball, bring others into play & know where the net is. We have Rossi we paid money for who was highly rated by Bournemouth & not using him. We need some points to settle us down and a couple of quality new additions in January. Have to recall Bennett.

SVH - What's happened to Sam Smith more like. It’s both him and Ironside to be fair isn’t it? Only Knibbs looked his usual zippy self and unfortunately his game is based around his energy and endeavour rather than anything cuter.

Yes Big Joe as well but I find Smith's sudden loss of form to be more concerning if only because Smith's the more skilful one out of the two. Big Joe has always been a 'limited' player in some ways and he struggles big time when he's marked out of the game.

3 home games, 3 defeats, no goals and a only a few scraps of chances. Still, today was a slightly better performance.
We badly need to win next Saturday.
