Some relatively banal observations I had during/after the match today:
Greg Taylor unfortunately is not League One quality and I'd be very surprised/slightly annoyed if he's still here next season.
Lewis Simper I thought was very assured against high quality opposition with some lovely touches and a couple of times our strikers weren't on his wavelength. Should be 3rd choice CM ahead of O'Neil.
Glad we tied Brophy to a 3 year deal last year as he was excellent again today and has been good this season imo.
Port Vale next weekend is an absolute must win now after this run of matches and I am concerned where the goals come from against them. I've watched 3 of the last 4 (missed B Rovers) and, albeit against good opposition, it's really hard to see where the goal threat is with this team at the moment. Think Lankester was doing well before so would put him back in against a poorer team in PV.

Think you can be disappointed about the poor run of form whilst balancing that against the league we’re in and some of the opponents.
There will be more shite days but there are 32 games left and we will not be relegated.
We need a settled defence but for various reasons that hasn’t happened yet.
Think the squad will be a quite different next season and I would hope we might start to see the beginnings of that transition in January because it is beginning to feel necessary.

I would quite happily take 18th place now at the end of the season . More endeavour today but we are crying out for some creativity and hardly tested the Wednesday keeper. We just didn’t look like scoring. Yes Ironside & Smith are having dips in form but they aren’t even getting scraps to live off. I mentioned the poor summer recruitment last week and it is coming back to hurt us now we have injuries. Squad looks light in areas and with Bonner saying in his interview that Digby & Mitov have knocks wonder if we will be in for an emergency loan keeper. Credit to Simper who looked bright and to Brophy who looked at home in that role. Next week is massive.

I know people are saying Greg played well aside from the goal, which is just about true, but any long ball near him and his body language suggested it was a grenade, not a football! Also, his distribution was awful. He wasn't alone in that, I don't think Williams found an amber shirt all game.
There are certainly positives. Brophy was excellent, that's probably his most 'natural' position, Digby and Jones look like real solid players at this level. Simper looked understandably nervous to start, grew gradually into it, and by the end I was very impressed with his performance overall. Knibbs got better and more involved as the game went on and was by far our biggest threat. The other side of that is Tracey seemed to be playing with the handbrake on, I hope due to the (presumably) unusual nature of the role he was playing. He is at his best when he doesn't think about it and just runs at defences, he seemed to be holding back from doing that. You can never accuse Smith and Ironside of not trying, it just isn't happening for them for a variety of reasons.
I wasn't overly impressed with Wednesday who I found to be a big physical team who got away with quite a few yellow card challenges from officials who could be best described as inconsistent!
The difference was Bannan who was a joy to watch. He must be the best player in the division? His touch and vision were reminiscent of Wes at his best for us. He ran the show without ever breaking sweat. He is exactly the sort of player we are crying out for, but I suppose that nearly every side in the EFL is!

I think there will be (has to be) a big rebuild this summer...perhaps we'll see shoots of it beginning in January. Bonner & Strang have good form on this so I completely trust them. We'll be talking about quite a new team in August 23...scary but exciting.

Overall a bit better than the previous home game in at least we put some pressure on the Wednesday defence albeit without testing the keeper. Brophy the stand out performance today. If Mannion was on the bench I would have expected him to play at least the 2nd half. Can’t blame Bonner for not putting on a complete novice against a big physical team even if your no.1 is playing on 1 leg. Hope it’s just bruising as it really effected his kicking. I suspect opposition tactics have pointed out he gets a lot of back passes and likes to take a touch before launching it so it probably was inevitable he would be on the receiving end of a late tackle this season.
Wednesday looked a massive team bar Bannan who just won pretty much every aerial battle. Knocking it long to smith and Ironside just doesn’t work. Smith did have a good chance just before half time running in from a tight angle which probably the Smith of August would have tucked away.
Next Saturday is a must win. I’d like to see Lankester start and Smith play centrally. And a vast improvement on set pieces as we had several in good positions today which just found a blue and white shirt every time.

Was actually relieved that Bannan was wide left for most of the game. I've always been under the impression he's most dangerous pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Worth bearing in mind he is allegedly on £27,000 per week. PMSL. Wednesday were generally big brutes. Yes, we're critical of Smith, Ironside et al but that was a good defence they had to play against.

Very no nonsense. Even out wide, everything went through Bannan and he seems to have a lot of freedom. He certainly still seems to enjoy it, regardless of his wages. I have heard many figures mentioning, I think 27k is the highest! He certainly isn't getting minimum wage!

Bannan reminded me so much of wes, what a player, so below he's level. Brophy mom for me, Jones as well had a good game imo. Need to strengthen in Jan or be relegated I fear.

Even watching Bannan in the small square short passing routine before kick off right in front of me in the Habbin was great to watch. No wonder he’s still playing in L1 if he’s paid 27k a week. Just effortless accuracy and always seems to have ages on the ball.

No coincidence we have lost every game Taylor has started this season. No where near up to the standard required for a league one centre half, I would start Rossi going forward. You can’t gift teams at the top goals let alone in the first 10 minutes. Sheffield Wednesday won’t get an easier 3 points all season, while we had possession we never tested stockdale. The less said about the second the better, mitov has been poor this season and needs to find form quickly. The pluses were simper looked good (why hasn’t he featured more?), Jones and Williams look head and shoulders above our other defenders.
