There was more discussed at the CFU AGM, first 50 minutes or so was a Q & A with Bonner and Tunbridge featuring most heavily. Worth a listen, to hear MB dispel a few myths that have been raised on here about issues like squad depth, youth team players etc. Watched this as had time today and given our league position Bonner’s had quite an easy ride there! No questions about performances and just one on squad size. Interesting he does admit it was his decision to release Hoolahan as often mentioned on here.

Interesting he does admit it was his decision to release Hoolahan as often mentioned on here. We knew that anyway. The wording of the retained list article was quite clear about it. The only "doubt" was whether it was a financial decision or not, which he also categorically states it wasn't. It's clear, to me at least, that we made the break in an attempt to evolve our style a bit, clear the pathway for Knibbs & Lankester to play more & decrease a reliance on moments of magic from individuals. Obviously the way the season's gone it hasn't worked out particularly well in that regard – and there's absolutely no doubt that being able to call on him, even in an impact-sub role would have been incredibly useful & probably worth a few more points than we have – but it was a brave decision made for the right reasons.

Ultimately its turned out to be a poor decision, MB has made alot of those I'm afraid.

In the post season reflection, time to big up the CEO Alex Tunbridge?
Post prompted by reading:
Reasons?
A) the hospitality refurb looks about as good as it could be
B) ticketing offers have worked
C) NRE fan zone
D) Main Stand fan zone. I know losing the Dublin Suite was a disappointment to many but I think the new food and bars behind the main stand have created a good vibe. I wasn't out there supping pints in the middle of winter, mind.
E) New main sponsor (assumption this is a positive)
F) Umbro should be a decent replacement
Anything to add to the positives?
Any negatives I don't know about?

Can't remember who but someone on here seems to have a bit of a vendetta against him for some reason that isn't entirely clear. Presumably because he's a "suit" taking up budget.
And someone else has accused him of trying to DERACINATE Coconuts from the match-day experience, which is another odd one.

(Not my words, I have little opinion on his boat.)

Only hearsay, but I understand he has been a positive influence behind the scenes since he arrived, bringing in new initiatives, driving forward the growth that the club is seeing off the pitch and is not afraid to rattle cages if people don't perform.
I look forward with anticipation at news of the new club sponsor announcement.

Positive vibes about Alex from Stevenage fans and we are obviously a huge step up for him. I guess that we will soon have a bond scheme to “invest” in to help fund the redevelopment of the ground as that seems to have worked well at the Chavs with their new stand.

I expect we are a stepping stone in his career, he seems to be progressing well in his latest career chapter.

The NRE fan zone has been brilliant, not having to battle to the Main Stand for a pint before the game. The music too, it's all just helped build a bit of an atmosphere before the game too.
They will need a bit of covering somewhere for the Winter months though!

Key points: - Slightly taken aback by quite how good crowds have been this year, which has led to a few extra challenges on matchdays that we've been addressing (new server for card machines, and other bits and bobs) but feedback mechanism is really useful and progress being made.
- Progress with ground redevelopment, been really positive with the Supporters Club, waiting for the next bit of process in terms of EGM.
- Back to the drawing board with the badge but want to get this right. Thought the design met needs but clearly not. Will be engaging particularly with the younger and older demographics over the next year. Owners very keen not to stand still with club image and rebrand, but know it's an emotive subject and want to get to a place where broadly everyone is happy.
- Training ground almost done, slightly delayed by bad weather. Inside pretty much finished and team will be moving in in the first week of November, with just a few bits to sort out outside. Will be 100% done by the new year but in use well before then. Staff and players are very excited about it.
- Been broadly pleased with the start on the pitch, want to kick on.

Underestimating our crowds is a far throw from the days of, I think, Richard Summerfield, budgeting for a breakeven crowd of 4000 back in our batshit financial day of 4th division mediocrity and a predictable 3000 crowd.
(It was whoever the financial guy was under Garwood, I think, might have been some other whizz)
Also...bad weather? Obviously it doesn't matter but with nothing else to moan about(!), really? It rained once or twice I think but I'd hardly describe that as bad weather. Absolute nonsense, the badge stealing lunatic.
Grateful as ever for the updates. Always appreciated.

Met him briefly at a business event in Cambridge earlier today, spoke with another Cambridge United commercial chap in more detail who was very clear in not discussing the badge (!) as it really took them by surprise about a lot of the criticism. Interesting that of the other Cambridge United fans I spoke with at the event there was a clear difference between younger (40's and under) liking the badge and the older fans hating it and just wanting to keep the old badge. I can see why it has been so divisive. And I think everyone has been shocked by how well the crowds have held up! Great to see though

Over 40s are basically dead so shouldn't get the vote.
