So where are these signings Bonz was hinting at before the window opened. So far, we've one player who isn't yet fit and one who made 20 minutes and is now out for the season. How are we going to get the points we need with the current available players who clearly aren't up to the job? I would suggest that it is vitally important to make Central defence signings THIS week, not leave it to the end of the month when the targets may have a better offer.

I'm seeing this as quite an out of context post. Things that are hinted at do not always happen. Probably not surprised that an out of contract player is not up to match sharpness and I don't think the simple statement o9f 20 minutes and out for the season tells the whole story. We have players who are up to it, we just need to get them back from the treatment table. It can't be easy trying to get a centre back to come in on the basis of "you can play until Jones is fit again" and I cannot see why players would be offered a better deal at the end of the window, surely that would be a signing made out of desperation and a way of paying a player more than he is worth.

I think you’ll be disappointed if you are waiting for a centre back. I suspect Bennett wil be our only CB signing and we’ll go with him, Okedina and Taylor until Jones is back. I think Bennett will start next Saturday. I’m expecting a centre midfielder to sign as that is where we are crying out for an addition and have been since May’a injury.

I can’t for the life of me understand why Bonner didn’t know Seddon would collide with his own keeper and get injured. Bonner out!

I guess Liam Bennett will play left back with Williams on the right. It’s not ideal but the best we can do with three left backs out injured.

Okedina and Taylor are much of a muchness at the moment, but with Jubril I think it's largely confidence based and should be something he can work through. With Greg it looks more likely to be a leap in quality he can't quite make, particularly after the awful injury last year. Neither of them are particularly helped by a soft midfield and Digby being spread too thin, mind. Conceding sloppy goals has been an issue all season after all, not just when we've used the current partnership at the back.

Okedina ok as backup/bench, I don't see any place for him in the stable L1 side we all hoped for, can only hope he improves, and that new contract isn't seen as a mistake.

Okedina's only 22, there's a lot more to come from him. He's already improved massively from when we first had him on loan in L2, but it's never been linear progress. He's had bad patches (think of Salford...) followed by coming back stronger after after time out of the side. I think if there were options to do so, now is when Bonner would usually be taking him out of the firing line for a bit to work on whatever needs working on, but that's clearly not an option at the moment.
Taylor unfortunately doesn't look quite up to it, but it was the right thing to give him a chance. Club captain who was an important part of us getting promoted, and looked fine for the couple of games in L1 before his injury. I think the injury has probably cost him a little pace/mobility, which when he didn't have tons to start with means he's quite consistently exposed. Unfortunately that's not something he can do much about, but he's clearly putting the effort in and if/when he leaves at the end of the season, should do so with his head held high.

Yes exactly, a defender’s peak is never when they are 22. He will get better but it would be better if he could be taken out of the first team from time to time. When Bennett is ready, we have a choice between Taylor and Okedina (or playing Williams at centre back). None are ideal but I’d say a lacking confidence Okedina alongside a top CB like Bennett to help him through is the best choice.

We're in a relegation battle - look at our form. We also won't have the budget to buy ourselves out of this. Only thing that gives me hope is when we get some players back from injury and Bonner maybe changing team sheet and giving Lankester a chance. Some of us have been saying that for months, but Bonner has a blind spot and keeps refusing to give our only creative player a proper chance. Which means not expecting Jack to make a killer pass every few minutes, and not making him always the first to be taken off when things aren’t going well. If Bonner would at least remove his rose-tinted Knibbs spectacles and at the same time removed his Lankester-shaped blinkers, we could go a long way towards getting out of this.

Bonner’s Lankester blind spot must be so big that he failed to see him sneaking in to sign a new contract the other week. He’ll be livid when he finds out about that!

Now Wingo's Boy, I know we have our differences but I respect your opinion. I am a huge fan of Jack and wish we'd seen more of him this season. He's probably our only genuinely creative player. And when he clicks he makes a world of difference. And has an eye for something that no other player has. Neither me nor you see these players in training nor know their place in the scheme of things in terms of injuries, motivation, illness, what's happening at home, depression etc. And his contract extension means Bonner sees something there to build upon. Ultimately I trust Bonner and the point I'm trying to make cackhandedly is that I wish you would too. Oh and leave Knibbs alone too...he's one of the most bizarre footballers I've ever seen: never quite know what's going to happen next; strange dribbles; random goals. But jeez you can't fault the heart or passion of the man.
