Indeed - there was the opportunity after the terrible run to get in fresh blood, instead they have effectively told him he's good for the season (if you don't fire someone after those results, you aren't going to). But it's a decision a high percentage of people here are happy with - mid-table L2 with Bonner in charge over any change at the helm. Apparently today, with us 23rd in the league was just another "free hit" (god we've had an awful lot of those this season) - and apparently we are the mad ones for wanting a change. Glad we managed to get the two helter-skelter catchphrases in at least today. I'm very pleased for you. So - which ones are you disagreeing with exactly? The one where a large majority of people will be happy with relegation so long as the lord and savour stays in charge? Or the one where every single week it's a team at mid-table or above, or a team that has played in the Championship or above considered a "free hit" Come on then fella - disagree with them, tell me how I'm just making rubbish up

Will you every realise how unfair and dishonest it is to fabricate other people's opinions? Except for the poles here which said EXACTLY that - it isn't unfair when this is exactly what people voted for in two separate poles is it?

To be honest didn’t expect anything out of today but after the last two games at least expected us to be hard to beat and out up a fight.
First 30 mins was so easy for them. Jones and Mitov have to do better for the first. Second half you would have thought we were the team with 10.
No creativity at all, passing was slow and poor and when we got half a chance we simply don’t shoot.
A few angry reactions from fans at the end

That was alarmingly poor. Four out of 10 performances at best across the pitch, and dugout, today. Why were we so listless? Bust up on the bus up? Brophy a late fitness fail resulting in the unbalanced wingbacks? Someone in the camp with some bad personal news? Ugh. We started on our heels and stayed there all match. None of the fight or focus of the past 2 weeks. Flat. Worrying. Massive reaction needed Tuesday. Mcgrandles and Williams looked like they had been told they had a sniper trained on them, jittery and weak. Only player who looked up for it, positive and confident was Lennet. Something was not right today.

You: But it's a decision a high percentage of people here are happy with - mid-table L2 with Bonner in charge over any change at the helm. The poll: Only we're back in League 2 next season and playing poorly - 111 votes Oh I see. Your view is that mid-table is not "playing poorly" so he'd still be manager? Fair enough, I see where you're coming from. Let's see what happens, eh? Just don't work yourself up into such a frenzy that you'll be disappointed if we do stay up with Bonner at the helm because you wanted to be proved right that he should have been canned!

Nobody came out of that with any credit, predictable and toothless performance all round. Mitov has to hold that or push it clear and the second was off-side with 2 players in front of him.
Subs were all wrong and we seem to be missing Adam May and Liam O’Neil a lot. I can’t remember our last shot from a loose ball on the edge of the box. Knibbs doesn’t make any runs when playing up top and is McCrangles too frightened to shoot? Unfortunately this is a level too high for Joe this season too but hopefully Fejiri is back soon to provide another option, although I fear he is injured again. We might just need an out-of-contract striker if we are to get out of this hole.

We can’t even retain possession from a throw in, we are in deep trouble.
Keeping 3 central defenders on the pitch for so long when we couldn’t create anything really miffed me? Throw one of them Upfront if they’re the spare player. Very odd.
Can’t see us getting out of this now, we just look so flat. When the chances do fall we fluff them.

Sheffield Wednesday away maybe? I think Simper hit the cross bar.
Disappointing today. The early goal and red card didn't really help us as it meant Barnsley were happy to sit in shape and absorb anything we had to offer - which was little and at a slow tempo - we don't really have the pace, patience or creativity to open up teams that draw us onto them and sit in a low block like that. We certainly don't have the bravery to run beyond the player on the ball or risk getting an incisive pass wrong, but a little more worrying was that we didn't really match their physicality often enough at set pieces.
I didn't see the first goal yet but the second is annoying to see a Barnsley spare man on the edge of the area when we have the man advantage. Great hit though. Not sure what Dimi was protesting about..? Not sure they had much else on offer but they didn't need to, it was too easy to win with a very ordinary performance.
Roll on Tuesday.

A rather underwhelming performance all round that has shattered the little optimism the previous two performances had garnered. Until the sending off, it had the look of a game where the only question was how many Barnsley would score. Our failure to pick up runners and the amount of space conceded on the wings was a recipe for a drubbing. On the few occasions we did get forward, we didn’t seem to know what to do, be it through a lack of ability or – more likely – a crippling lack of confidence anywhere near the opposition’s penalty area.
Yes, Mitov might have done better with the first goal, but no one could argue that Barnsley were much the better side in the first 30 minutes, even if they didn’t seem to need to get out of second gear. Quite why the Barnsley striker decided to forearm smash Jones in the neck only he will know. But, sitting with a Barnsley supporting friend in the main stand, it’s fair to say there weren’t many complaints when the ref finally decided to show the red card.
Playing against 10 men is no guarantee that United will prosper. One only has to look back to the reverse fixture when the red card sparked Barnsley into “nothing to lose” attacking frenzy that ripped us apart and saw them score three times. I seem to recall something similar in a game against Luton a few years back: United 2-0 up approaching half time, a Luton man sent off, then conceding four in the second half! United had plenty of possession in the final 10 minutes of the half, but never remotely threatened the Barnsley goal.
The changes made at half time gave Barnsley the edge and it was impossible to detect which side had 10 men. It’s always easy to criticise the lack of early substitutions, but in the first half it was obvious that Ironside was getting nowhere and – certainly after the sending off – someone with pace and willing to run at the Barnsley defence was desperately needed. The second goal killed what little chance United had – scoring one was unlikely, scoring two virtually unthinkable. Mitov may have had a case for the players in the 6 yard box being in an offside position and obstructing his view, but – without the endless VAR reviews of PL games– you’re rarely going to get good enough communication between League 1 referees and their assistants to even consider things like that.
Knibbs really should’ve done better when he failed to get a shot away with the score at 1-0, and – although it was a good save – Smith should have scored with the header to at least give United some hope. Realistically, Barnsley would probably have just upped their game a bit. Not for the first time, the substitutions - when they came - were a bit random. Taking Bennett the Younger off instead of Williams was definitely odd and, with a man advantage (allegedly), it was crying out for Lankester much earlier. Would it have made any difference? Probably not.
Although picking up a point or three against the promotion chasing teams would definitely be handy, they’re not the games that will decide United’s fate. Fail to pick up at least 5 points from the next 3 games, and it really will be long, hard road ahead.

I have no idea whether he'd solve all our problems, but has anyone explicitly asked Bonner why Lankester gets so little game time?

We certainly don't have the bravery to run beyond the player on the ball or risk getting an incisive pass wrong, but a little more worrying was that we didn't really match their physicality often enough at set pieces. The one player we currently have fit and available who would be willing to make these type of passes was on the bench until the 80th minute. MB doesn't seem to want to take the risk with that type of player - he would prefer the safe and steady of Worman. Which, to a point, until we shored up the defence, might have been understandable. But it leaves us with zero creativity - yes there are four potential outcomes from Lankester's play: 1. he gets it right, the other players read it right, and we get up the pitch and into a goal scoring position 2. he gets it right but the other players don't read it and we lose possession - Lankester looks poor but it isn't his fault 3. the opposition player reads the game and intercepts 4. he gets it wrong But for pities sake why don't we take the risk and see where it takes us. He obviously sees the talent and potential in Lankester and Simper - both have been offered and signed contracts until 2025, but if they are not his type of player it does beg the question why.

The 2nd goal was definitely offside, their striker is clearly infringing Mitov’s view. Still, it would have made no decision to the result. The last few years we would at least have had a bloody good go when going a goal down. Now we don’t seem to put up much more than a wimper.

I have no idea whether he'd solve all our problems, but has anyone explicitly asked Bonner why Lankester gets so little game time? This really winds me up. If he thinks he’s crap then fair enough, but why extend his contract? The biggest missing piece this season has been Hoolahan and whenever young Jack comes on he looks like the only player we’ve got who has anything like the passing & technical quality that he did. Yesterday for example, comes on with 15 to go and makes a reverse pass to Shilow that totally cut their defence open. It’s all very odd.

When Mark says "we lacked guile", surely the question is why isn't Lankester on the field then? I'm not in the Bonner out camp but I can't understand the Lankester situation. Does anyone know where Okenabihrie was yesterday, still ill?
