He played in League 1 last season for MK Dons, including in the match against us. It probably says more about the strength of the squad they had last season than his own ability that he wasn't a regular starter, although he did play in 37 of their games.

Imagine if not being in the team enhanced O’Neil’s reputation as much as it has Lankester or Janneh.
We’d have Zidane, Kante and Bellingham all rolled into one, and all just a fortnight away from fitness.

Would have to send Lennett on loan again... In more on topic news, I think it's interesting that people think we will be midtable or relegation threat in the league below. Does that not also suggest we should be struggling in this league? Of course we should be trying our hardest to stay in this division but it seems contradictory of sorts to expect it when also predicting doom should we go down. We'd have to change tact completely and lower our budgets. Putting us back into the realms of a league 2 budget, we also lose 70% of this squad requiring an entire rebuild It's not as easy as going down, sign a few top players and come back Agree with this and we wont be selling 3000 season tickets in league 2. People are having to cut back due to cost of living and maybe the thought of Barrow or Sutton at home will mean people will keep their hard earned cash than watching us against Ipswich & Derby for example. We have to do our best to stay up. Will relegation mean the end, no of course not but it could lead to mid to low mediocrity in League 2 again.

Promotion from any division is not a given - plenty of better resourced clubs have found this, as we did trying to get back into the league. Sometimes its about having a 'Fwee year plan' (sorry!) and rebuilding. As a club we are well placed with that, if we can hold onto the gems in our youth set up.

What gives us a better chance of keeping hold of our young stars, having higher status by staying in League 1 or potentially being able to offer them slightly more playing time in League 2?

Have to admit when we got promoted my initial thoughts were let's just enjoy it, visit some new grounds, some iconic and see what happens.
Having a fantastic first season raised my expectations that we could push on and become a mid-table league one side. The second season aside from the first few games has been a hard watch at times.
I will be there home and away next season just like in the conference and our return to league two. However, as others have stated watching us in large gounds, with large crowds along with well supported visiting teams is soemthing I have enjoyed.

I think that is a question for the youngsters and their motivation! We have seen quite a few of our youngsters leave for the bright lights of the London clubs and hardly seen a match day in the first team. No doubt they enjoy being on decent wages, but you have to wonder how much they are developing if they are not playing competitive men's football. I do think we look after our youngsters, seek out the right opportunities for their ongoing development, identify appropriate loans for them and keep them progressing, investing in their future. While they are a minnow in the giant goldfish bowl at Stamford Bridge or White Hart Lane, they won't get the same opportunities. Perhaps that suits some of them though, going there thinking they have a realistic chance of making it all the way. Not many do!

I think having a youth team that can make the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup, beating Chelsea along the way and going on to play Arsenal, will have far more to do with retention and recruitment of future academy players than whether the first team are 18th in League One or 18th in League Two.

But it also brings the vultures overhead, looking to pick off the best talent! What it also does though is enhance our reputation for developing talent, so boosting the recruitment side of that equation, even if it may weaken retention!
