Comfortable having a different opinion. It would be incredibly boring if we all agreed on everything.
Everybody else thought the sun shone out of the arse of Dave Doggett & Jez George & look how that turned out.
Happy Valentines Day all, let’s hope we win tonight no matter how scruffy it is.

Boateng and Iredale walk into this team so I would say man for man is certainly not true. Not sure Boateng would. Linked very nicely with Wes, but was a bit of a liability at times defensively. Iredale I agree with - but I'm sure with our luck he'd become another injured left back anyway! Morrison, Bennett and Jones would all have walked into our League 2 side. Either McGrandles or Knibbs (the more experienced version we have now) would get in over Hannant. Williams v Knoyle is pretty even. Smith isn't Mullin, but wouldn't be a million miles off (definitely 20+ goals in League 2). Wes is the big miss. Boateng would be, by far and away, our best midfielder. He’s exactly what we’re missing. Do you not think he’d get in over Digby, O’Neil, Worman, Simper, May? I haven’t seen enough of McGrandles yet to form an opinion.

Would have to send Lennett on loan again... In more on topic news, I think it's interesting that people think we will be midtable or relegation threat in the league below. Does that not also suggest we should be struggling in this league? Of course we should be trying our hardest to stay in this division but it seems contradictory of sorts to expect it when also predicting doom should we go down.

I think he'd have a place in the squad don't get me wrong - but I think a lot of the time when we've been successful due to an organised and hardworking midfield he wouldn't be the option we'd want. Digby and May I'd rate ahead of him, plus probably O'Neil when fit. McGrandles has started well and was great at Lincoln. I liked Boateng in our squad, but beyond the first couple of games I don't think he stood out massively.

We'd have to change tact completely and lower our budgets. Putting us back into the realms of a league 2 budget, we also lose 70% of this squad requiring an entire rebuild It's not as easy as going down, sign a few top players and come back

Putting us back into the realms of a league 2 budget, we also lose 70% of this squad requiring an entire rebuild It's not as easy as going down, sign a few top players and come back Yes but the same applies in this division, we have a bottom 4/5 budget and are in that position. Our budget will always be relative to our level. Just don't see the logic in accepting our fate in L2 which as you say realistically might be midtable yet expecting us to overperform at a higher level. We can show ambition to want to stay in this league, and still be ambitious to try and get back up if we don't. People are moaning about fans seeing this as a holiday but equally saying it's our only chance. No qualms if that's your opinion but don't see one being a more negative/dangerous/whatever outlook which was the initial point from the poster questioning fan mentality.

When he's been fit I think O'Neil's looked very good as part of our 4-2-3-1 in League 1, the problem is that he hasn't been fit. We've not seen Boateng in League 1 to compare, so couldn't be definite either way.

I’d have Boateng in our first team now, I thought he had a great touch and a really strong physical presence. As soon as we signed him I thought we’d go on to get promotion.

My only reservation about Boateng was he looked a tad overweight and wasn't as mobile as he should be. Tracking back was definitely an issue, which makes him more of a luxury than he should have been. No doubt about his ability on the ball, he and Wes complemented each other well, some of their interplay was top class. However, the 'dirty' side of his game was lacking.

I reckon if you know enough about football, you don’t need to see Boateng play in league 1 to know that he’s a better player than Liam O’Neil.
Liam O’Neil!
