I was strongly in favour of keeping the old badge and kicked up a fuss to have it uncluded as a poll option on this here message board. It's only the message board but keeping the old badge wasn't as popular as the new option on that poll. So fan opinion wasn't clear cut.
Ultimately, despite my own personal desire to keep the existing badge, after all Paul Barry has done for the club, he has more than earned his right to push through a change if that's what he feels is best.
Given that they have clearly made a boardroom decision that change must happen, I think it was ultimately handled very well.
And I am mighty releived the ball and book option didn't make it. I hated that one, personally.

I don’t mind the new one but I’m not sure how it’s any better than the one we’ve already got ?

Nice River Plate badge rip off. Well done! Make no mistake, this club is the very definition of a 'progressive club'. And lest we forget -

That was a great kit TBF. Will always remind me of Newcastle too. Happy days.

I don’t hate it. I don’t think it’s better than the current badge but I don’t hate it. I do hate that the club have not really told us why the existing badge is so bad or whether we could even have a say on it staying. And I disagree therefore with your final sentence entirely! "At the last meeting we sounded out thoughts on looking at the Club badge over the summer and whether it could be adapted or modernised, as this is consistent feedback we have received from potential sponsors in recent times." From Paul Barry, in the first messaging about this saga: www.cambridgeunited.com/news/2023/may/paul-barry-cambridge-united-end-of-season-message-sky-bet-league-one-efl-english-football-league-tuesday-9th-may-2023"We believe that modernising our crest and identity is important to our growth and development at a time of ever greater sporting and and financial competition."From the CEO at www.cambridgeunited.com/crestThere is also the stuff about a new crest being able to represent the club and the city better which the secondary identities definitely do. Sorry, I know this is very well trodden ground, but you did ask! I do really like all of the secondary identity stuff and think they will all work really well in merchandise and marketing. I can't think of any other club that has a suite of emblems like we now do? For me, it's the best thing to come out of this process! Sorry but that is bulls**t by the club. Would a business really think about investing say 200k and then saying we don't like the badge, we won't bother now? Where is the evidence for this? Surely with the change we should now have a list of investors and amounts they will be committing? What next, what if a big sponsor says we need to change kit to blue in order to invest?

I'm not really sure they are suggesting that someone will be on the verge of investing and pull out due to the old crest looking like a clip art football toilet seat.
I think they are suggesting presenting us in a more favourable, modern image in the first place to attract further potential investors. Also for us to appeal more to younger generations, thus increasing the attendances which have already increased so much under Tunbridge and Co. Hopefully this means more eyes on us and even more chance of investors. It all adds up.
I for one believe that there is method in the madness, but each to their own.

How on earth does the badge attract more fans. Normally it’s because of it being a local club or their dad supports them. Never heard of anyone supporting a club because of the badge.

As I've said elsewhere, this whole conversation is a dead end when one side of it cannot see any issues with the current badge. (Which is entirely their right of course.)

Our current badge makes us look dated and uncool to the youngsters (opinion, supported by some fieldwork).

As I've said elsewhere, this whole conversation is a dead end when one side of it cannot see any issues with the current badge. (Which is entirely their right of course.) But that's not really true is it? More than 4/5 people were willing to see change, including most of the loudest dissenters on here. Most of them would just rather the change was a better one.

It's a dead end with the specific cohort I mentioned.
Yeah, shame no one came up with a real humdinger of a new badge but 🤷♂️
At least the process brought about the secondary identities.

It’s the reason given for change is what I don’t like. Nothing tangible has been given as a reason. Ie. Change badge and we will get 1m extra a year and 1000 new fans. Option to keep would have been good. And paying more than £10 for some new designs too.

It's not possible to get that kind of quantifiable information though, it's mostly based on intuition and experience and none of us have experience of trying to sell the club to businesses. I like the current badge but also understand that it could be an issue for some
