Liam Bennett isn't a right back... At Walsall they played him as a right wing back. When he returned to us we changed our shape to accommodate that. We need to play our best players in their best positions. Simple as. Same goes for Thomas - I want to see him in the attacking mid role.

They used him in a number of positions I thought. Primarily right back and right wing back, but also left back and right midfield.
By now I think he's played more times at right back than anywhere else so I feel it's safe to say he is a right back. I'd be a bit disappointed if we need to change formation to accommodate a full back. He's good, but not good enough to make those sort of allowances for, particularly as you then have to square peg three players (Kaikai, Gordon, Janneh) who wouldn't have a natural position in the side. It'd leave us with four potential LWB's though, I guess 🤷‍♂️
He's had a poor couple of games, but generally has been one of our better players so I'm not too down about him. He's played a lot of football in the last year, it's easy to forget this is only his second proper year as a professional footballer so I think we can cut him some slack.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did we actually win a single game last season playing wing backs?

Dunk vs Andrew: Blocking the cross: Dunk Pace: Dunk Picking a good pass: Andrew Strength: Andrew probably Crossing: Dunk Scoring: Dunk (based on the end of last season) Heading: Andrew Commitment: Dunk Free kicks: Allegedly Andrew... not seen evidence yet though Regardless of the injury which is unfortunate, I really feel for Dunk. Played arguably his best football for us at the end of last season. Him along with Sam Smith were absolutely instrumental in keeping us up. And then he gets dropped again. Not saying that I'd be against getting another left back in, but the jury is still very much out for me whether Andrew is a definite upgrade. Looks: Dunk by a mile

He plays far better at a wing back than an out and out right back. He'll always be up against it as a right back because of his height and physicality and he'll always be targeted.

Disappointed that his effort and form wasn't rewarded at the start of the season. As for Andrew, I've not seen him make a decent performance yet. On paper he seemed like decent untroubled signing, however he hasn't looked like the consistent league 1 veteran we were promised. I know a few people think his form picked up in September, so perhaps there's better to come? Part of his problem could be the lack of cover ahead of him, however the other elements of his game have also been a slight let down. He's played just under 200 League 1 games consistently as first choice in the last 5 seasons so there must be a good player there, hopefully it's a matter of time.

I see we have found this season’s scapegoat… If he scores a goal this season I look forward to him “shushing” the forum in his celebration.

Nope, Lankester has been equally rubbish of late But a thread hadn’t been resurrected to slag him off To say someone is being slagged off or made a scapegoat is to suggest the criticism isn't warranted. That's not the case here. If someone wants the perks of being a professional footballer, it comes with the down side that their performances will be scrutinised. Danny Andrew has been unconvincing since virtually day one at the club in my opinion, and I know for a fact that I'm not alone in holding that view. Both goals came down his side on Monday night. I appreciate Liam Bennett also shoulders much (arguable most) of the responsibility for twice being beaten at by his man at the far post, but for Liam, that's one poor showing in what has otherwise been a very strong start to the season. For Andrew however, it's more of the same. Stopping the ball from being crossed into the box is literally his main responsibility as a left back and he fails almost every time. Not because he's been isolated two-on-one or because he's facing a classy winger who can beat fullbacks with ease, but one-on-one with a bang average League One wide man and the ball comes into our box almost every time. Pointing out these things isn't slagging off or making scapegoats, it's highlighting poor performances that needs to improve if we're going to have a successful season, particularly given we released a very sold full back in the summer and our other two left backs are always injured.

He is targeted every match and was withdrawn after 45 minutes at Derby after having a stinker.

Think he'll come good, there's enough there. Bit of cover further up the pitch would be nice, as mentioned.
Can't think of too many players who've joined the Bonz project that have had such a mixed start.

He is targeted every match and was withdrawn after 45 minutes at Derby after having a stinker. I think it's fair to say that both full backs have been vulnerable this season and targeted by the opposition. Neither have covered themselves in glory consistently. There could be reasons for this - good players don't turn bad for no reason. Bonner has always preferred to play with wide midfielders who support the full backs defensively; we play with our full backs tucked in beside the CBs, defending the width of the penalty area much of the time, which makes it difficult for the FB to stop the cross. That is where the wingers have a responsibility. I think the only one who truly knows this role and does his bit is Brophy, Janneh was bombed out of the team last season because he wasn't doing it, JKG doesn't seem to be good at it and I haven't seen enough of Kaikai to make a judgment on him. Somehow Bonner needs to address this, because it isn't going to get any easier as clubs scout us and see the weakness.
