Much smaller scale
What if we signed Connor Washington? Would he have gone on to hit the heights he did? Would we have got 500k for him like Newport did?

What if Tranmere goalkeeper Joe Murphy hadn't sacrificed his life to save Lionel's penalty in the dying minutes of our final game of the 2001-02 season.
The total destruction of the NRE might have otherwise finished the club, not to mention the tragic loss of several hundred fans behind the goal.

What if Chris Leadbitter's goal hadn't been disallowed at West Ham back in May 1993?
If it had stood then a second goal would have kept us up.

What if Neal Heaney’s “goal” against Middlesbrough had not been disallowed? There was also a Shaggy 'winner' that was wrongly disallowed for offside at home to Plymouth in the season we lost to Leicester in the playoffs. The ball to Shaggy wasn't a forward pass and we drew the game, losing 2pts. I remember being furious for weeks after that!

Smaller scale but what if 'Total football' Bolton had actually been punished by the ref for the rugby tackle on Benjamin and we'd gone on to make the QF of the FA cup. Lot more money in the cup then compared to the early 90's runs.

This is in my top 5 in game moments that I was actually present for. Already relegated but brilliant atmosphere and a come from behind win. LIONEL, LIONEL LIONEL LIONEL!! He had no choice but to take it. Plus I think that keeper is still playing in the league as I heard his name on the EFL highlights show the other day.

"I still maintain we'd have been a mid-table PL team had we gone up. It's possible the team would have been dismantled - but this was pre "extremely silly money" in the PL and I'm sure everyone would have wanted to stick around and see what they could have done"
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that had we kept Taylor and gone up we would have finished *at least* mid-table.
I'm also fairly sure after that season the team would break up and we'd not only be the worst Premier League team of all time but probably very swiftly and aggressively find ourselves back in division 4. Maybe even go bust as a result of our exertions.

What if we had sacked Bonner last season? Would we be better off than sixth in League One with average attendances over 7,000? Steve Evans would have us 3rd Not sure this one quite belongs as, it certainly appears like, we were never even close to sacking him. Bonner off to Rotherham (Botherham) on the other hand... Yeh but we were never close to winning the 2008 or 2009 play-off finals either!

Blackburn v Cambridge/ Coca Cola Cup Jan 6 1993. I think we got to the semis? losing 3-2. I think it was late in the game; Devon White went through on goal and had the chance to round keeper. Keeper gets a hand to it! They go down the other end and score! Small margins!

All of the above Plus we had finished 6th from bottom and Bournemouth 5th from bottom the season 5 were relegated to the bottom division instead of 4. Then went on to do what Bournemouth have achieved since. And what could have happened if Shrewsbury had played their first team against Bournemouth the day before our final match?

Not many of that team played in the Premier League and only Dion had a sustained period in the top half of the table. If we’re saying we should have put the brakes on the Quality train towards the end of that season in order to get promoted, I doubt we’d have got back on again, so we’d probably have just been fairly poor but without much element of surprise.

What if JB had come to his senses around December of the 1991/92 season & realised we had quite a few decent footballers who could play a bit. We wouldn't have needed the play-offs then as we were definitely better than Middlesborough who went up automatically to the inaugural Premiershite Yes I agree. That team was incredibly effective and efficient in Division 3 and the first half of Division 2 but then we got found out a bit and kept drawing games. If Beck had let us off the leash a bit and given the players a bit more freedom then I do think we’d have gained more points and therefore been a lot closer to automatic promotion, maybe even going up. Steve Claridge was very vocal about this. He said that we were by far the best team in the division, but Beck’s rigidity ruined it in the end.
