I entered the stadium via Cut Throat Lane at about 7.20pm last night. There were no queues and all turnstiles seemed to be open. The stewards just after the turnstiles are absolutely fine, always the same people, and the lady steward always has a welcoming smile on her face. If I bring a bag they ask what is in it and have a look inside. I have never been patted down and at age 70 I don’t expect to be. The Main Stand elites seems to be getting a very different experience!

Must admit the last few games at NRE have been made to feel like a nuisance by the Stewards. I’m 63 and they want to search me like some kid , so rightly refused, then get sent to a corner like a naughty step if you want to smoke, then keep getting told not to stand in the ever growing hatched yellow lines area…. not a great match experience to say the least, and if I hadn’t been going for 55 years then I’d have told them to stick it up their arse. And no half time pint in the club and filthy portaloos , not very enticing for new fans or loyal supporters, United take note! The searching aspect I understand and the extremely low standards of our stewards is extremely worrying. But I personally fully back people not being allowed into the supporters club now that we sell beer and as for smoking in a crowd...get a grip it's absolutely rank.

The Main Stand elites seems to be getting a very different experience! Bet the corporate baxtads aren't violated by some fiddler pervert. Bet they're not forced to queue pointlessly in a fecking deluge while the game has started. The winker that initially arranged for one Habbin turnstile to serve the entire North & South terrace ought to be dunked in Coldham's Brook. See how he likes a gratuitous soaking.
Contemptuous class-ridden shite from the incompetent club.

We don’t sell Guinness, it’s too bloody cold this time of year to drink outside, and I don’t smoke in crowds, but out of the way, only to be shunted into a crowded corner.

I have to say, the main stand turnstile set-up is excellent. No issues whatsoever. I would however agree with comments about the rent-a-mob crowd. The hired in stewards we've had at the back of the main stand are broadly clueless, and the situation is really only acceptable as a number of our very long standing club employed stewards (who are all wonderful btw) are on hand to try to get rent-a-mob to provide any sort of service to supporters. The ones I had behind me in C block a few weeks back had absolutely no idea about blocks/rows/seat numbers etc, and were about as useful as a chocolate tea pot when first time supporters were trying to locate their seats - in the end I directed them myself as it was just less embarrassing than listening to the 'whaat' which came from rent-a-mob's mouth when asked a simple question. I really don't see any point to them except to tick the proverbial box to say we have enough stewards for the anticipated crowd size?
Whatever next? Confiscate bottle tops? This is not Cambridge United stuff. Sure there has to be adaptations as the club grows but we really must try to hold on to the ethos of the Abbey being a welcoming and enjoyable place to visit for everyone. Cambridge really isn't like some grotty little northern town with an ASBO problem, and the way in which supporters are treated needs to reflect that.

Apart from the oiks that throw things at the opposition keeper and smash up the toilets at London Road. At least there have been no Ugg boot ruining yellow smoke bombs for a while.

Maybe a ittle more profiling and a little less 'one size fits all' is an alternative approach? Sure we have our fair share of idiots, every club does, but they really are not hard to spot. Stone Island? Goggles? Dressed by JD Sports? Balaclavas? Way back in the 80's it was Lyle and Scott or Pringle sweaters, polo roll neck tops and pricey trainers. Plod knew who to look out for a mile off!

My Burberry baseball cap is soaked after last night. It certainly won't be ready for Saturday. I've asked the Curate to unpick the Stone Island badge from the left arm of my cassock & cover up the stripes on my Gazelles with tippex.

I there a match day survey for this game? And if so anyone got a link? Thanks.
I’m pretty sure the club are aware of the issues but I would like to feed back on it all.

I take it you don't 'get the badge in' to every photo opportunity Jerry Quite right re the main stand stewarding - none of them know where blocks are people are often sat in the wrong seats. I do wonder if the club struggle to recruit stewards locally and have to bus them in. Won't be the best paid job around even for students

Something certainly needs to be done in the NRE. Got in the ground around 7.25pm. No queue at the turnstiles but then have to stand waiting for 2 or 3 mins to be searched. Then got a very strange look cos i happened to have keys in my pocket! On top of that the poor chap next to me being searched was an OAP. Is it really necessary to search everyone.
My biggest worry, and I know I’m being judgemental, but I’d have no faith in any of these agency stewards being any use whatsoever in an actual emergency.
