I'd hope so, but I read it was going to feature more of Joséphine’s life before she met Napoleon so who knows. Andrew Christ, I just don't get how a Napoleon film becomes boring. One of the most interesting characters/stories in world history

I quite enjoyed Leave the World Behind, but it's one where I'd fear recommending it because I could see why someone might think it was a waste of time.

Also a really interesting exercise in seeing the choices that get made when adapting a novel into a film. Really loved the book and there are some pretty big differences between the two, but not to the detriment of either.

Taking the family to see Wonka over the weekend, which I was not that excited about. That is until I found out Neil Hannon (musical genius) wrote the music and now I am hoping it won't be so bad. Went today, I hate musicals so that was a bit of a surprise considering it's not really advertised as such. Can't believe how well done the entire film is. It's a completely Unnecessary and a very risky film to make but they smash it out the park. Leave a little wiggle room for a sequel if they want to which I suspect they might considering how popular it is likely to be Hugh Grant is superb in the small parts of the film he's in & the Oompa Loompa song is used very well. Timothee Chamalet annoys me and I don't know why because I really like him in everything he's in. Also just like the random castings of the assorted British Comedians/actors throughout the film, most foreign audiences won't notice them but all sorts in there from Peep show to Mighty Boosh. I'll give it a solid 7.5/10

Watched 'Jack Frost' last night. Not the Micheal Keaton one mind haha, but the horror one where the snowman is possessed and kills people. Dumb concept, but I laughed a lot tbh. Some nice Duvel helped with that...

I watched the original Willy Wonka the other day and it's just a bloody delight isn't it?
Haven't seen the new one yet. Or any trailers. Chamalet is good in most things but feels like he'd be an odd cast in this so I'm quite keen to see how he does.

I'll give it a solid 7.5/10 We as a families don’t normally go to the cinema, apart from Oppenheimer, we hadn’t been for around 5 years, but we all enjoyed the craziness of the Wonka film (me, wife, teenage children and their grandparents) and as a prequel the main character is entirely ‘believable’ in the context of developing into the chocolate factory film. Unusual to find a film now that such a wide generation of people all enjoyed. I would give it 8.5/10.

Andrew I love that film so much that I just won’t watch the Depp remake and this prequel thingy doesn’t entice me in the slightest. It’s very much a me thing and it’s great that other people enjoy them, but to me Gene Wilder as Wonka and that film in general is so perfect, that there’s no reason to redo it, or add anything to the canon. It’s probably just as much down to my personal distaste for the seemingly never ending trend for remakes, reboots, prequels and so on to the detriment of original ideas, but again I accept that there’s clearly a big market for it and to each their own.

Some films are untouchable I think and you can't recreate that magic...I still get the same joy from watching them as I did when I first saw it as a child...with the added bonus of seeing new things through the eyes of a 46 year old. That can't be recaptured in a remake even if I enjoy the remake.
Speaking of which, I just watched Gremlins which is one of the most perfect films ever made ever. An absolute masterclass from start to finish.
Gremlins 2 is even better. The smart gremlin saying "Civilisation" has lived rent free in my head since 1990.

Wonka is a really good me and my family felt, I really wasn’t expecting much as musicals aren’t for me but this was really good with some excellent acting.
Leave the world behind on the other hand was awful which is such a shame as I really like Ali as an actor, felt it could have delivered so much more other than flamingos in a pool and deers in a garden.

Salt burn 5/10
Other than Barry keoghan being brilliant in this film it’s generally a poor one, takes a long time to get going and when it does I found it very disappointing, avoid.

Godzilla minus one was pretty good. A far better story and more interesting human characters than the American films.

Next Goal Wins was mostly pretty good. It's the story of the American Samoa side that got thrashed by Australia 31-0.
I quite like 'Mighty Ducks' type films...I didn't think it did enough with that angle or with the team and their story personally, it was more of a redemption film for the Michael Fassbender character, it was still enjoyable enough, though.
I find Taika Waititi treads the line between irritating and funny about as awkwardly as Ryan Reynolds does and this was no different. Some funny bits, some overplayed and a bit forced.
A high 6 out of 7.
