Spinach and cheese pie is a real taste of Greece and a victim of it's own success as I now struggle to get a vegetarian pie on a match day. Well done. I notice some train stations have a chips vending machine...

We had chip vending machines at work for a while and they are not worth the hassle, always breaking down, oil had to be changed often and 9 out of 10 times the portion of chips missed the tray at the end so you ended up trying to pick up the chips from the chute

Shame as a 24kg per hour chip fryer and two 2.5kg 20min chip scuttles would set us back £780 and someone would have to top up the scuttles pretty sharpish in the limit sales time we get at half time. At 300g per portion that is only 80 an hour (or 160 for a 150g 'McD large order' portion). Assume we have 5kg ready plus a 9 litre load nearly cooked at the whistle... what could we sell in half and hour? Three scuttles takes it up to £972 and the electricity supply is rising fast (4.5kw is 65p per hour? £1?). 7.5kg (25 /'50' portions) ready plus a 9 litre load nearly cooked at the whistle... www.nisbets.co.uk/Lincat-Silverlink-Single-Fryer/J536/ProductDetail.ractionwww.nisbets.co.uk/Lincat-Lynx-Chip-Scuttle---Model-LCS/CB112/ProductDetail.ractionGrease Proof Chip Bags. 6” x 4”. 1 x 1000. £4.99. 7” x 7”. 1 x 1000. £6.99 Cooking oil £20 per 20 litres. I'm guessing that 10kg of chipped potatoes (£8-£10) are 25 litres. So (2.4x25/9) 6-7 full 9 litre baskets an hour for the 24kg throughput. Only time for 24kg at half time even precooking loads. 54-60 litres an hour? A basket every ten minutes? One or two in the scuttles, one done in the basket. Maybe get two more done while on sale (45 litres total). So the money to be made on chips is maybe £80-£90 at £1 a portion profit? After £25 expenses, labour and capital start up, is it worth it? Remember that the chips compete against the other products so your sales of those may drop. Many clubs 'bundle' the chips with other hot food orders to reduce/prevent this. Not exactly a business model, but it is a start (or perhaps a finish).

If that's not 'post of the year' I don't know what is.

:Sarcasm: How flattering
Given the thread it seems the sort of constructive post you might expect.

It has been said before that chips can not be cooked due to the rating of the existing electrical supply to the tea bars. I assume they have bottled propane/butane for the hotplates they fry on as electric versions of them would like use greater than the 4.5kW the deep fryers draw.

I wasn't being sarcastic.
You had an idea, and went on to provide a high level justification - good on you.
And all in the name of 'chips'.
This was what prompted my accolade.

So we've risen to the call and given a lot of feedback in this thread... please can we have a response to our feedback from the Catering Team? Seems only fair. Also if it seems feedback is falling on deaf ears then people will be less likely to contribute next time they're asked to.

Well if the chips are cooked in the kitchen the scuttles can keep them warm at 500watts apiece?

Many Thanks for all those replies it certainly is very valuable information. The points we need to work on: More Hot Chocolate in cups! Onions will be in every tea bar on saturday More Pies and Staff in Habbin Fresh Soup is being looked into to for saturday but may not be available in every tea bar for Saturday
Also couple more points to pick up on chips unfortunately is a no go they take up to much power with the fryers we would love to do them but it is not possible, but many thanks to Lurid for the helpful equations! It would also be interesting to know if the Kidderminster model could work here? Who would be happy to pay more for quality, plentiful snack foods?
Finally Ray Hertford, Tom Bowran, Abbey Shuffler please Inbox me and we can arrange for you guys to have a burger or a bacon roll on us.
The burgers are from a local butchers so they are real burgers made with real meat we have had teething problems cooking them on a mass scale but we think now we have rectified the situation
As always keep the suggestions and feedback coming in we are always monitoring the situation and looking to keep you guys happy. Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday

Good to hear. Also well done for coming on here and taking feedback, something the club has lacked in recent years.
