Saw a few of these myself this summer, AX/DC in London and Sabbath, Maiden and Halestorm at Download, all excellent. Must admit having seen 'DC twice before I didn't have tickets for this tour until Axl came on board and morbid curiosity got the best of me but it was an outstanding show! I was also at Download - Sabbath, Rival Sons, Shinedown, Billy Talent, Saxon (with Biff), Maiden*, Deftones* Korn*, Danko Jones, Megadeth*, Disturbed* (*not by my choice.) At Carnival of Madness back in February saw Halestorm, Shinedown and Black Stone Cherry. In October, I'm off to see Steel Panther (3rd time and I still find them hilarious) and Buckcherry. (I saw Maiden back in 1982 in Ipswich - I got bored and sat in the foyer for 20 mins - I still find them boring now - I don't dislike some of their songs though so I just listen in small doses). They'll probably be some others too but just spent £134.00 on United's next three matches! Did you do the full weekend at Donington? I've been going for about 10 years now and always do the full camping experience, always my favourite week of the year! I can't get enough of Maiden myself, that was my 10th time having seen them and they are for my money the best act I've ever seen out of hundreds of bands old & new, big and small. Very jealous that you managed to see Saxon in the tent, I was planning on it, but almost passed out due to overheating during Gojira so went for a lay down before Maiden! I saw Black Stone Cherry at COM too, missed the support acts (was annoyed at missing Halestorm, Shinedown not so much) but BSC were 10/10 just like each time I've seen them. I've got 'Kentucky' down as my album of the year so far as it stands, plus I've got them and Halestorm down as my picks for two acts I think will step up to top the bill at Download over the next few years. You could say I'm something of a fan! Haven't been to too much else this year, but as a lighter note compared to the bands mentioned above I was lucky enough to see Kasabian at the King Power in May, which was also excellent with a predictably electric atmosphere.

We did do the full weekend - however I'm too old and wise for any of that camping malarkey 😂. One junction up the M1 and we were in a very comfortable and dry hotel room for less than the price of camping. Makes no odds to me as I don't drink that much, so I did the driving and the hotel bar stayed open as long as we wanted so I had a few drinks there with fellow festival goers.
At COM I was a little disappointed with BSC who I really love - but it all felt a little bit flat after Shinedown who had the crowd absolutely bouncing and I loved it - if you get a chance, youtube their performance of Enemies at that gig - ignore the first few minutes of American this is your moment stuff - which does grate a bit.
Saxon were great but getting to and from that tent was flipping hard work in all that mud, I hope for better weather next year!

Did you catch Highly Suspect at COM? If so, any good live?
Download was excellent this year (minus the weather), just can't bring myself to love mud and rain. Finally after two attempts I managed a full Maiden set without passing out, I'd agree they are probably the best act out there. It's hard to gauge, Muse are up right there but they have the personality of a drone, heh, see what I did there?!
I saw Wilson at the Portland Arms in March, really enjoyed it. It was one of the emptiest gigs I've ever been to.

In case anyone is in town tonight, my band is playing at the Corner House on Newmarket Road. So even if you can't get to Mansfield you still get s view of the hallowed floodlights. Check us out here: soundcloud.com/delsyn-drive/sets/13-february-2016-gta-studiosThe songs most representative of us are Tribute, Shoot the Messenger and On My Own. Thanks, hopefully see some of you later - I will be wearing my Haart striped shirt and sitting behind the drums.

Not sure what I have got myself into, but going to see King Crimson tomorrow night. Opinions divided - ageing rockers or rock legends?

Went to Bloodstock a few weeks ago. Spent most the weekend in the new bands tent and was thoroughly entertained.
On the main stages Twisted Sister were (surprisingly) brilliant, Slayer a bit lacking but still classic, Venom rocked as expected and Gojira the best of the 'new' bands. Acid Reign and Goatwhore were entertaining and fun on the second stage.
I preferred it to the last time I was at Download (2006), and would recommend the festival. That could be because it's aimed at the more mature metaller.

That could be because it's aimed at the more mature metaller. Average age at Download these days is late 20's at least, I first went as an 18 year old in 2007 and it's largely the same crowd who have been going on and off since it started in 2003/04 but a bit older and wiser. Obviously there are always a decent number of first timers/youngsters about and fair bit of silliness, but nothing like the riot incidents in 2006 has happened in the decade since, assuming of course you were in the campsites and understandably put off returning by that. I really would recommend giving it another go next year if the line up appeals. For me as well it also benefits from taking place during exam time, so you don't get much of the school leaver/6th form crowd that have never been away from Mum & Dad before and turn up at Reading/Leeds. I've not made it to Bloodstock yet but have heard good things and plan to give it a go one year. Glad to hear Twisted Sister are still on form (throughly enjoyed them at DL2014) and I'm not surprised to hear Gojira were good too, they seem to be on a great run at the moment, last two albums were excellent, as was their DL set this year and they've been getting rave reviews all summer. Next gig I've got lined up is Skindred at The Junction in November which should be excellent and then Black Stoke Cherry again in London.

Twisted Sister takes me back a year or two. Castle Donington monsters of rock. Early 1980's. Great day apart from piss filled flying bottles.

Great day apart from piss filled flying bottles. Flying piss bottles are another thing that are thankfully absent from Donington/Download these days, and have been for some years. Never understood that one myself I must admit and can't help with the 'meathead metalhead' perception that still persists to an extent. Oddly from what I've seen, in recent years behaviour like that seems to be the preserve of a small number of punters at more mainstream gigs such as Oasis or Kasabian, (I've been splashed by suspiciously warm and yellow fluids whilst watching both bands) and a pal that saw Eminem last year said it even happened there.

Got my tickets to see Wales` greatest band, Super Furry Animals, in Cardiff in December. Playing Fuzzy Logic and Radiator in full. Not sure what I think of this trend of playing albums right through at gigs. However, they`re both superb albums so it should be good.

Not sure what I think of this trend of playing albums right through at gigs. However, they`re both superb albums so it should be good. It really depends on how good the album was and how the set is structured around it. When I saw Metallica do the black album in full, they started the set with a few other hits before playing the album in reverse order, allowing them to finish the main set with 'Enter Sandman', rather than start with it and encore with other big hitters from their catalogue and it worked brilliantly. Apart from the rare occasions when a band does their new record in full on tour, it's obviously a bit of a nostalgia trip as well which can be good or bad depending whether the band are still any good or past it.
