Not a band I've seen live yet, hoping to early next year, but Newdad are bloody good.
Any other enjoyers?

The problem is that the female singer isn't that great live. Seen them a couple of times, and both times she has been poor. Shame because the band would be a lot better (live) without her. Have you seen Celestrial Sanctuary live? Are they any good? Both albums are great No, this will be my first time. I've only been to a couple of gigs since coronavirus so I'm trying to get out more! How was the Celestrial concert?

Unfortunately Celestial Sanctuary didn't play that night. I saw them a couple of years ago at The Black Heart (after we lost at Charlton) and they were great. Didn't have enough material to fill the time so played some songs twice, something more bands should do. Infernal Sea were great fun as always, they should be bigger than they are, and Terra were very good as well. After this year's Charlton match I Went to see Forsaken Legion at The Cart and Horses (birthplace of Iron Maiden) Really good thrash/black and like all Swiss metal bands a heavy Celtic Frost influence. No, this will be my first time. I've only been to a couple of gigs since coronavirus so I'm trying to get out more! How was the Celestrial concert?

How was the Celestrial concert? Yeah, they had some personal issues and pulled out the day before. a local one man pornogrind chap turned up instead. The Infernal Sea really are very good. They put on a great show and their material from the upcoming album was killer. Really looking forward to that now. Existentialist were also really good. Deathcore is pretty hit or miss for me, but they put on a tight set. The vocalist especially is a talented chap. I noticed their yellow and black shirts sold well.

Has anyone seen live music at MASH yet? (Formerly Fez)
I'm having trouble reconciling this "Our anti-establishment ethos and inclusion policy strive to bring all the open-minded people of Cambridge together onto our dancefloor" with "We retain information on everyone who enters the venue by scanning their ID before entering, so the police can trace any alleged offender. We only accept government-issued photo ID such as passports or drivers licences. Any form of Pass Card will not be accepted."
Ferocious Dog are due to play there next year but I can't help feeling that it won't be much like a Junction gig and maybe one to swerve.

I went to see a band there in 2022 and there were no ID checks then. Can’t see FD the band or their audience putting up with that!

Yes, I suspect the booker shared the first bit of info with them but not the second!
Out of interest, was it any good as a gig venue?

Seem to recall that the sound was fine. Quite low ceilings.
Just seen that Henge are playing there in February so will be getting tickets for that.

Worth looking out for As If By Magic. They are a local band made up of musicians who used to play in other successful bands. I sometimes teach in the rehearsal room next to them and they sound amazing. Apparently officially performing locally early next year.
I went to see This Is The Kit at the junction a few months back and they were incredible.

Friday 19th January Turncoat Billy are playing at the Portland Arms. ‘Fresh from support slots with The Rifles and a national tour with Joel Stoker, Turncoat Billy bring their unique blend of wit, melody and knee-slapping singalongs to Cambridge for the first time. A must for fans of Divine Comedy, The Housemartins, Chas n Dave, Warren Zevon and The Byrds. Only £7s’. Support from local artist Fair Weather Son. Turncoat Billy, named after the infamous Billy Beale. AKA Billy the turncoat. The band consists of an Orient fan, a United fan (and some others…) They are top top quality. I’ll buy anyone a pint that turns up in United shirt/hat/scarf. See you there. theportlandarms.co.uk/wp/product/turncoat-billy-support-19th-jan-24/

Existentialist will be back for the third(?) of the all day six six fundraisers on March 23rd: www.gigantic.com/eschalon-tickets/cambridge-the-six-six-bar/2024-03-23-13-00There are fundraisers on the 10th (metal, www.facebook.com/events/1299430134070593/) and 17th (rock/indie/alternative, www.facebook.com/events/682060710804881/) as well. Worth considering showing your support for one of the few live venues left hosting rock and such at a decent price.

Oh to be so punished, a full 25 years on, for the naivety of expressing an idealised thought about the appropriation of ancient symbols. They are an amazing band.
