Besides which, and it’s massively off topic, but anyone who thinks we don’t need a major expansion in arms production right now is not paying attention to international politics or the lessons of history…

Arms production in itself isn't much of an issue. Corporate entities profiting from it is less good. Anything that attempts to blur the line between the fervent tribalism of football support and the massacre of mostly innocents is also not great.
I don't agree with "keeping politics out of football," but "defence" companies can take their war-gains and FRO.

It's a sad day when people start getting offended by football shirt sponsorship. Virtually every major company will have skeletons in closets and just because a company manufactures arms doesn't mean the company is controversial. Weapons are needed for many reasons from defence to farming.

Is it really? No one said they were offended, but would it really be that bad if they were?
There is a hell of a lot sadder about the world today than a person thinking companies that profit from violence shouldn't also sponsor sports.

I'd broadly agree that just because a company sells arms doesn't mean it's controversial, but selling arms to Israel for the genocide in Gaza (however one interprets that conflict people ARE dying) certainly isn't farming.
I think it's fair to be disappointed in a club that markets itself as a people's champion. It's total antithesis to their values as a club to be involved with a company that stands so clearly against human rights.

Not genocide, obviously, but yeah that's not exactly a sponsorship to be crowing about. Especially as it's a relative pittance for Dortmund.
It's a bit more extreme than the Auclairian types losing their rubbish over perfectly fine gambling companies, that's for sure.

I'm reluctant to give the cheating scum any of my oxygen, but, Manchester City threatening to sue the premier league on the basis of their rules being a "tyranny of the majority" is laughable...it's an admission of guilt and an attempt to get in front of any punishment by blackmailing and bullying.
Threatening to increase ticket prices and cut spending in the community is absolutely vile. What a disgusting club they've become.
Truly disappointing what the premier league has allowed itself to become. That I have to pick a side in this and that side is the premier league is just sh*t.
I do find the idea of football eating itself quite fun, though.

Some brave calls (culls) from Southgate. Grealish and Maddison can feel a little aggrieved, but can understand the reasons why they’ve missed out. Dunk ahead of Branthwaite is worrying though. The fact he’s left sided should have sealed the deal, amongst other reasons.

The fact he’s left sided should have sealed the deal, amongst other reasons. Think Grealish would have offered something from the bench in a tight game personally. He needs to move from City though IMO to get more game time elsewhere. A lot of the other wide men are a bit the same barring Eze who may offer that difference. Lewis Dunk not up to international level for me but does bring some experience

Lewis Dunk is not up to international level for me but does bring some experience Dunk is in the same category as Maguire for me, always prone to a mistake, gets caught in possession too often and his distribution is average at best. Grealish and Maddison have missed out because Cole Palmer and Eze have had good seasons, while they have both missed a big part of the season; Grealish sat gaining splinters on the bench at Man City for the second half of the season, Maddison recovering from his injury.

Shame about Maguire being injured as he rarely lets England down and really suits Southgate ball. Not sure I trust Dunk in the same way and don't really know enough about the other picks, apart from Stones, to know if they're any better. I like what I've seen of Branthwaite though so he's one for the future, and if this is Southgates last tournament then maybe White'll be an option in the future. Anyway, looks a potential weak area to me at the moment..
I don't see any fit left backs in the squad either which feels odd. I know Trippier plays there well enough but I'm not really a fan of odd sided full backs. I guess we're confident Shaw will be available but I still think I'd have taken someone else (although I have no idea who)
Not convinced I'd have Trent-Arnold in midfield seeing as he doesn't play there for Liverpool, but it seems like the only position Southgate trusts him in so fair enough, I guess.
Apart from that it's an absolutely blessed looking side. Not a single weak link for me. We really should expecting to go far.
