Lewis Dunk over Branthwaite is insane. I’d rather have an unfit Maguire than LD. The squad looks a bit unbalanced to me with too many similar options in centre mid & our defence looks way too thin. Can’t imagine Shaw being match fit in time & to drop a young promising left sided centre half makes no sense in my book

Can’t imagine Shaw being match fit in time & to drop a young promising left sided centre half makes no sense in my book Shaw should be ready to 'play a part' in the 2nd group game. So won't be fully up to speed really until the knock out games. Big gamble, but probably points to the dearth of English qualified LBs out there. Branthwaite considered too you for this tournament. So an average liability like Dunk gets picked instead.

I thought the Scotch taking an hour to score was impressively shite, but take a bow.
Anyway, aside from Dunk over Braithwaite, not got an issues with that England squad. Quansah on standby is bit odd but hopefully it won't come to that.

I know he's not left-footed obviously but Dunk plays LCB for Brighton doesn't he? And he's replacing Maguire, also a right-footed LCB. I wouldn't get too hung up on who the fourth-choice CB is anyway because chances are he won't play more than a handful of minutes max in meaningful games in this tournament. Guéhi will partner Stones.

Bloody Iceland. I've never been more annoyed by an England game as I was in 2016.

Well that’s calmed expectations.
Nobody who came on was able to change the match or do anything different.
His form might not have been good but at least Grealish would have offered something a bit different. I suppose we will have to rely on Bellingham even more now.
Come on England!

Pretty poor to lose against a bunch of lads who work in a freezer shop.

A very hard watch and far from ideal going in to a major tournament. Very tired, disjointed and all round dull performance. Can only hope the fear of getting injured was the major factor, especially as the team that started won’t be far off the one for our opening game.

I'm feeling a bit flat. I totally understand his reasoning behind not including Grealish, but having watched the two friendlies (and yes I realise they don't truly reflect competitive matches), I am now wondering if our best chance of winning anything has passed. God I hope not🙏.

Thing with Grealish is he is used to coming on with 20 mins to go and changing the game. The likes of Bowen, Gordon, Palmer don’t have that experience, they very often start for their clubs. They’re all hugely talented and have a big part to play this summer, but Grealish (and Maddison) showed on Monday that they can come on an influence the game. Was a brave squad picked by Southgate, only time will tell if it was the right one.

Last night has absolutely no bearing on what will happen in the Euros. None.
That's not to say England will have a successful Euros, it's just to say that whether we won or lost a pre-tournament friendly makes no difference.
In our last pre=season game last summer, our full strength team lost to Barnet. A week later we beat an Oxford team that would wind up getting promoted. England's 1966 and 1996 campaigns started with frustrating draws. In the last Euros we got battered by the press for not beating Scotland yet recovered from that to find ourselves leading a penalty shootout in the final.
There may be many reasons to feel utter dejection about England in the next few weeks. Last night is not one of them. Don't go too early.

I think we lacked width especially with Trippier cutting in on his right. I'm not a fan of wrong sided fullbacks, he is a good player though.
Palmer was quite narrow too and it always looked as though we were trying to squeeze through the middle of the pitch. Credit to Bejams for that though because they defended very well in the main.
I quite like Guéhi as the best option to partner Stones. He reads the game well and is good on the ball...he's not as dominant in the air as Maguire which may cause issues but he looks like our best option to me.
I like Gordon a lot. Seemed like a show pony tosser to me 12 months ago but he's really turned it around. I thought he was our liveliest player early on.
I'm still looking forward to the Euros and am about as optimistic of doing well as I was before the game. It didn't half give me PTSD though.
