One word - Grealish.
I’m sure some of us remember Hoddle not being played in the England team & other ‘flair’ players being ignored. Hopefully, we will not be so stupid & Hoddle Mk 2 will star for CU in future years.

Hopefully, we will not be so stupid & Hoddle Mk 2 will start for CU in future years. I am conflicted about Grealish. I do think he could come on and stretch a tiring defence, but he is a one trick pony, albeit a good one when it works. He is right footed, playing on the left as an inverted WM, but always comes inside on his right foot. A good international quality defender will snuff that danger out quite quickly and nullify his threat.

What do people expect, a week before a tournament and players to risk injury by giving 100%??

Yes that’s not the issue. But lack of international experience is definitelg a valid claim. I’d have taken Grealish even if he wasn’t to start. He’s a useful player to change a game or to see out a game even if his form isn’t sufficient to start.

I'm gutted Grealish isn't going but I can see why he's fallen behind Foden, Gordan and Eze as options on the left. Leaving personal feelings aside I can see it's probably not worth taking him, even as an impact sub, if he's 4th choice.
I think Eze's performance against Bosnia might have tipped the scales and has really impressed in the training camp too from what I've heard.
Maddison looked nailed on for an England squad place earlier in the season too so is a bit unlucky for both of them we've had so many AMs in amazing form. Hopefully they'll both be back to their best next season as they're great players to watch.

I'm on the fence about Gordon as well; he may have pace to burn, and skin the FB to get to the bye line (which I love to see wingers do!), but his final ball on Friday was appalling, as was his shooting. Trying too hard perhaps, but I'd like a little more composure from him in the vital moments.

Gordon is usually much more composed than against Iceland so I'm not too concerned. He's got excellent work rate too which is something I like about him. Proper little feisty shithouse winger.

Kevin Campbell gone as well, seemed a decent guy when doing a bit of punditry even though he did break our hearts at Highbury

Don’t get the relevance of what you’re saying to my original post about the premature death of a decent player who scored against us in an iconic game

Are you expecting him not to try when he plays here? Whatever happens when we play them next season Paul Mullin will still be a legend for what he did during the promotion season. It's an amazing picture. Captures a brilliant moment of celebration, but being celebrated in a way it (hopefully) never will be again.
