Carroll got 2.5 years, I believe, as did Uche. It feels like a clear shift in transfer policy to me. Andrew Uche got until summer 2018 Rather than that's what he "got", maybe that's as long as he was willing to commit for? It's not always just down to the club.

As effective in the art of tackling as Liam Diash The mighty Daish. Committed a great foul too, witness his impersonation of a human exocet at Aldershot in 1990. Best red card ever. Cost him a playoff final place mind.

Welcome Liam. Odd that we seem to be handing out a lot of 3+ year contracts and yet Uche was only given a year and a half. Maybe Uche wouldn't sign a three year deal. Would imagine he expects to play at a higher level soon.

Raw but higher teams will always take punts on players if they think they can improve them also.

Any footballer below the Championship would be mad not to take as long a contract as possible. The power sits with the player anyway ala Payet. If Uche was here on a long contract and had interest from higher up, if he wanted to go he'd ultimately go. It would make no sense for us to keep a player who didn't want to be here and players know that. I struggle to believe anyone in League 2 would turn down as long a contract as possible, unless it was considerably better for them financially to take a shorter one.
The only long contract I've not had any issue with is Berry. Only because we already knew it was a good fit and there was no question over his ability. However long we've tied Brad down for has turned out to be fantastic business, but the rest the jury is out. You also have the risk of an Adam Miller situation with a long contract.
I hope how much we're paying on these long contracts is in some way performance and result related. Otherwise it's madness to be handing out these 2 year plus contracts for fun in the way we have.

Aldershot has always been a great day out!
That boozer with the massive beer garden.
A 2 minute walk from the station.
Paying student entrance fee despite being in my forties.
Rabid locals oft-armed with pick axe handles.

I remember scoring the goal of my life for the Junior U's v Junior Shots that day.
Gary Johnson even gave us a teamtalk, and John Beck briefly also popped along to watch.
Great days.

Remember it being chuffing hot that day. Didn't you access the away end by walking under the rickety main stand? It certainly was a meaty challenge. Think it was a goal from Cook that 'encouraged' the pitch invasion.
