Feck me, the eagerness of some people on this forum to virtue signal never ceases to amaze me, despite the regularity of it. Whatever you do, don't watch re-runs of old comedy shows on Dave, you'll have a f**king stroke. Apologies in advance to anyone who has actually had a stroke, or is called Dave, for making light of the challenges life has thrown at you. It isn't virtue signalling to point out racism. I think England is a cesspool. You aren't wrong. Can call me a snowflake but if someone took exception to what I said, I'd acknowledge it and simply not say it again. There are people who need to stop being a little Englander and maybe have some consideration for the way people may perceive things outside this little island. Even if they disagree at the very least have some basic social skills, accept someone is hurt and act accordingly. Saying it's"self righteous" is just victim blaming and deflection.

There are really just two ways to respond when someone tells you you've been offensive.
You can use it as a learning opportunity. (You don't even have to agree, but expanding your world is never a bad idea.)
Or you can be a tool about it.
Double points if someone has said something offensive, another person has told them so, and then someone else entirely decides to jump in shouting about their favourite virtue signalling conspiracy again.

May I ask that these debates between so called sponges be played out in public? It's been an enjoyable read. Nah, this thread was much more fun when it was about taking the piss out of Pish.

Happy to be the forum tool if it means standing up for people who I am sure are decent human beings, using a regular turn of phrase, who are then accused of having “really poor taste” or being an “absolute sponge”, both of which were said to other forum users before I got involved.
Then those people have the bare face to take a tone of moral superiority whist also dismissing a whole country as a “cesspool”.
Honestly, it’s hilarious how desperate some of you are.
To repeat, to the original poster, you aren’t the problem and did nothing wrong. If you choose to apologise, it’s entirely your call, but the judgement you have faced is, IMO, totally uncalled for.
The accusation of hibernophobia was particularly ridiculous and amusing. Absolute state of some of you 😂😂😂😂

If it's sincere, why not drop the person a private message to say "I think someone might be offended by that"? No, people need to advertise their perfection. This thread, and in fact this forum, is about as inoffensive and vanilla as the internet can get. To be offended here, you need to be actively seeking offence. Instead he’s sent me a threatening direct message. But he’s just a sad pathetic snowflake who gets offended on other people’s behalf.

It wasn't threatening, certainly less threatening than making someone feel small based on where they come from.

This country is a cesspit, so being offended about that is probably the most snowflaky thing of all.
But then he's just throwing a Pàdraig, I guess!

I asked so nicely as well. Sounds like the private message was from artvandelay. To the best of my knowledge, myself and hersey (now collectively known as "sponge squad") have kept it all public, as you so politely requested.

Just sat here with me popcorn glad it's not me involved for once!

I wish we could delete these recent messages and get back to doing what we all like, slagging of the Posh and not caring about offending those in the north of the county!

Well no, let's be fair. In the interest of balance lets all say something nice about Peterborough. I'll start.
I went there once and saw a frog at Ferry meadows.
