I too haven’t bothered sampling it because of who brews it, but that does sound right up my street. I usually love anything with Citra hops such of Adnams Ghost Ship, Oakham’s aptly named Citra and especially it’s bigger brother, The Green Devil.

I've walked past 4 or 5 times now and never seen more than two people in so far. What's the point in opening if you don't do any advertising!

The ‘curry’ thread got me thinking and wanted to reopen a pub discussion and see what you guys are making of all of this? Which pubs are getting the balance of customer safety whilst maintaining a traditional pub atmosphere and which aren’t? Where to go and where to avoid?
I’ll kick off with our much loved Kingston. Sadly this is a pale shadow of its former self. Very strict Covid protocols (difficult to argue against that) but at the huge expense of killing the atmosphere stone dead. Hard to think of a pub that has suffered more in the before and after.
Couldn’t connect with the Blue either and it seemed a right faff for a pint of beer.
Thought the Geldart was pretty good, likewise The Salisbury, but a special mention for The Castle which was particularly good.
Each of the visits have involved food so pre-booking a table has been quite convenient anyway, but it all seems a bit calculated and the days of nipping out for a couple of impromptu pints seem like a distant memory.
I dunno, it all seems a bit crap. Where are the hits and where are the misses?

What are the Covid protocols generally? Andrew One way systems, sanitisers at entrances, on tables. Exaggerated table spacing with screens between. No visits to the bar - ordering on apps, table service. (Apps involve opening an account which gives contact tracing details) Contactless payment. Some places don’t even have menus, you get that info on your phone. Some places (such, sadly, as the Kingston) have bar top to ceiling Perspex screens and they feel like a post office. The Kingston does all of these and even has screens between tables too. Whilst acknowledging this is very good practice, it has ripped the heart out of the place like no other. (Just my opinion of course, hence the desire to hear more promising tales from others).

Went to the Old Bull at Royston today, I think they have got a good balance of Covid control while keeping the pub atmosphere intact. Plenty of well spaced tables inside and out, sanitizer available ,tables and chairs cleaned after use, app for ordering etc Nice pint of Tribute to : )

Othersyde Bar in the sunshine is a gem. Getting very busy nowadays though.
Tap room at smoke works serves brewboard as well and has same vibe than before c19
Haven't been to Calverys since the overhaul but the images look good

Bumping the pub thread ahead of the bank holiday weekend, The (multi award winning) Three Horseshoes in Stapleford are having a beer festival this weekend, if anyone is at a loose end. I’m the cellarman, selected all the beers myself and will be manning the festival bar all weekend and could possibly be cajoled into offering a small one time discount on presentation of a U’s season ticket 😉

Just dropped into The Live and Let Live for the first time since it reopened under new management last month. It’s had a much needed lick of paint but I’m pleased to report all the old wood panelling, bar stools and large selection of rums are still in place and the beer selection is chuffing excellent.

Yes, no drastic changes and a decent selection of cask and keg. I did wince at being charged £5.40 for a plum porter though. I am aware of what is going on in the world, but considering I was later charged £4.80 for a keg product of similar strength, in a music venue, I found it a bit much.

Visited the Live and Let Live a few weeks ago and was very pleasantly surprised. It goes some way to making up for the travesty that is the new iteration of The Kingston. Wine and Hummus my arse

If you got served at the festival bar by a beardy bloke with glasses talking people’s ears off about the beers, that was me!

Two things, the pub this thread was named for is now a proper pub again and it’s a joyful thing!
Also in a shameless plug, The Three Horseshoes (Stapleford) will once again be hosting a beer festival over the Easter Weekend, following the roaring success of last year’s event. 20 + Cask ales, plus real cider and locally brewed craft beer will be served from Friday lunchtime right through to Monday evening/until it runs dry. All day food from our kitchen Friday & Saturday, BBQ Sunday and Monday afternoons and winding down with live Jazz Monday from 4PM.
